This has been happening to me for a number of months now, but it's been consistent in its inconsistency. Anecdotally it seems to happen to me a few times a week (but then, that depends on how active I am on LT during that time, I suppose.) Having just happened to me yet again, I figure it's time I punch up a bug report:
Basically, what happens is I will search for something in My Books, author or title or tag (though I don't specify what field I'm searching) and the first result returned is the blank page with "No books found." But I know that's not the case, so I hit the search button a second time, and now the expected results appear. I don't expect this to be repeatable, but it's a regularly-recurring problem for me, to the point where I no longer trust the first "no books found" result. (The offending search just now was for "gail z. martin", which initially returned 0 books, but on the second try returned 6 books.)

I've been getting similar issues too: I can't tell whether the search is failing because of inconsistencies of punctuation (there's been issues with straight vs curly quotes reported recently) or a leading 'The' in one not the other, but a second search after tweaking the entry usually works.
It's mildly irritating as I am currently engaged in cross-referencing my calibre library with the entries in LibraryThing and I'm usually dropping a title into the 'My books' search box. I'd use my TinyCat, but I need to see things like the tag cloud.

In my case, I'm not even tweaking the search terms, I'm literally just repeating the exact same search and getting different (nonzero) results the second time!
