Library Thing selects a generic cover that I can't change

At least three books that I have recently added have my generic cover attached and there is no way I can change this. Neither by choosing "Change Cover" or uploading my own scan. Here is one example: https://www.librarything.com/work/edit/316163154?referpage=addbooks.php

I don't recall this ever happening until this past week.

Do you get any different outcome going to your book through a link that doesn't have the "referpage" part? (which I haven't noticed before so I wonder if it is some new site code breaking things):

For example:
https://www.librarything.com/work/book/316163154

https://www.librarything.com/work/13622635

So I suspect that the problem is indeed, the way that @punto50 got there. So I think the key question is what set of steps resulted in that odd link.

That link is the URL that you get when you're in the Add Books page and click Edit Book for one of your recently added books.

It didn't stop me from changing the cover of a book.

Apologies, but I am confused by the terminology being used here. Not sure at all what you mean by "referpage" part of a link. I am not even sure what going to my book means. Is it how I added it or are you referring to my going to edit it? All I can say is that I have entered over 2,000 books over a decade at least and I don't think I did anything other than the usual on the three that this happened to this past week. Do you suggest I delete and then select a different option when using add books?

Thanks

They're wondering if you have the same issue when you click on the book from your catalog so that the link doesn't say "referpage" in it when you copy/paste it (and the link that you posted wants me to add the book so it isn't as helpful of a link for other people as the link you get from going to your book from the catalog view).

Addendum - I now see that there are at least eight more cases, dating back as afar as 2024, where my generic default cover has appeared. The default seems to have appeared at some time after I entered the book and successfully chose a cover through the procedure I have been using since day one.

No, you've given a work page link there. The book link would have to include 316163154 which is the book ID.

There are various ways to get to a book record, it might that recent changes to the Add Book page (I understand it's been upgraded to "LT2" format only in the last week or two) have somehow contributed to this bug. If @punto50 is clicking on a link on that page. But it could be a complete red herring.

I was wondering @punto50 if you went to your book via a different route, whether you were still unable to change the cover.

For example if you go to your homepage: https://www.librarything.com/profile/punto50 and go to the book in the Recently Added section, does that make any difference?

Please note that I'm not denying that this is happening, but it isn't happening for me, and I notice that no one else seems to be seeing it happen for their books. And you're giving a strange link. @Nevov correctly challenged the URL I gave, but the point is, there are other ways to get to the cover. So the question is, what steps are you taking to get there? This might explain why you're seeing a behavior the rest of us don't seem to be seeing.

The "?referpage=addbooks.php" isn't particularly strange. If you go to your Add books page and look at the recently added books in the right side column, the "edit book" links there are as the OP posted. I'm pretty sure that extra bit just means that the Edit Book page was reached from the Add books page, not from anywhere else.

That said, I am seeing my own covers when I navigate to the edit book page from the add book page, and indeed changing the cover by going add books -> edit book -> change cover is one of my most common workflows, and works fine for me.

Hi. Covers are changed by clicking the "Covers" link. That will take you to here.
https://www.librarything.com/work/13622635/covers/316163154

You were perhaps trying to get a cover—on the edit page—by changing the ISBN. Poseur, however, only has Amazon covers by ISBN, and you have chosen to exclude all Amazon covers from your library.

If you would like to use Amazon covers, you must go to here, and check the "Amazon" box you unchecked.
https://www.librarything.com/settings/covers

The book in question does have one member-provided cover. I clicked it and clicked "Change cover" and now Poseur has that cover for you.

It's possible you went to the Covers page and chose an Amazon cover. I think we need to put a warning on the page that members who have selected never to use Amazon covers cannot override that on a single cover, so picking an Amazon cover will not select it, until you allow Amazon covers again.

>7 punto50: To help developers determine what is happening so they can properly investigate, please give the following information:

1) Operating system (Windows/Mac/Android/iPhone)?
2) Browser (Chrome/Firefox/Safari/DuckDuckGo, Etc)? (And if you have browser extensions installed, please mention(
3) The EXACT steps you take to encounter this problem.
4) At least two more book examples where you can't change the cover.

This may be browser related since Firefox has done some stupid things in the background

No need. This is clear.
