Wolfe once wrote that it was so pretty, it sort of hurt to look at it. Jan O’Nale, who ran Cheap Street Press alongside her husband, told Wolfe that, when St. Peter asked her what she’d done to deserve entry into Heaven, she’d tell him she published this book.
The O’Nales committed suicide together, ostensibly for medical reasons, although the local sheriff believes the husband’s Vietnam-related PTSD was the real cause. Afterward, Wolfe, recalling Jan’s comment about St. Peter, wrote that he hoped her reply to the saint worked.
A lovely book, and one rarely offered for sale.
