I'm looking for a literary novel, published before 2021 and translated into Danish. I believe the author may be American, Canadian or British, but I’m not certain.
The main characters are an older married couple.
The husband plays in a professional string quartet. One member retires and is replaced by a younger female musician. The husband becomes infatuated with her and eventually even contemplates murdering his wife so he can be with her. However, the young woman falls in love with another member of the quartet rather than him.
The wife has a parallel storyline in which she gets to know a young man, possibly a neighbour. Later it is revealed that he murdered his mother.
The novel is literary fiction rather than a crime novel. I read it in Danish sometime during the 2010s or early 2020s.
