Message notification in header bar not clearing after messages are read

The yellow icon in the brown header bar which indicates that I have a message/ messages in my inbox does not clear for a while.

Sometimes it happens when I read my messages on a different device and sometimes it doesn't clear immediately on the same device even after going to a different page. The icon indicates I have a message but when I go to my inbox there are no unread messages.

1) Safari Version 18.3.1 (20620.2.4.11.6)
2) Firefox 141.0.3 (aarch64)

>1 humouress: I have been having this issue for a few months now -- it's been low down on the list of difficulties I'm having in various realms and so I haven't written it up, but I'm glad to back up @humouress' report.

I'm on a MacBook Pro currently running MacOS 26.5.1 (Tahoe) but it was running an up-to-date MacOS 25.n.m (Sequoia) until a couple weeks ago. I access LT via Firefox, currently 152.0.3 and typically upgraded within a week or two of new releases.

I have found that I can clear the yellow envelope icon in the brown header bar by doing the following: (1) after reading the message, using the back button in my Firefox window; (2) clicking the still-yellow envelope icon from any LT tab in Firefox, including but not restricted to the one I just read the message in, and then using the back button on that window. Voila! the envelope is white on brown again, just by going back to my message-box (if that's what it's called -- I don't actually have to open the message again).

Now that I know this works I often do it right away after reading the message, but I was lazy this morning and didn't ... until I saw this bug report and decided to verify it before adding my $0.02. Still worked.

Note that re-loading the "message-box" page after reading the message doesn't work, nor does reloading the page I was on before entering the "message-box" once I get back to it after reading the message.

I have the problem too, and have just concluded that it's not worth worrying about. The announcement stays there for tens of minutes after it should clear, but I remember having gotten a message and ignore it.

I imagine it would be worse for someone who gets many messages a day.

>4 bnielsen: I should have been clearer in my comment. I was confirming the problem. It isn't a big problem for me, but it is clearly not the way it ought to work.

True; not a huge problem but slightly annoying. And not how it ought to work.

This problem seems to have cleared on my desktop and laptop but I noticed it just now on my iPad.

Yes, same here. I have to click the notification again after reading the message in order to clear it.
