I have been aware for a while that someone created a map by which you can geographically track where you have sent books. I think I have even found the map. My problem is, I don't know how to use it. I am not the most tech-savvy person around so I need good step-by-step instructions including how to save it somewhere, etc.
Can anyone help?

This should take you to a website where you can make a map. You go in under "countries visited" map and check off the countries you've sent to. When you've finished click on the "generate map" button. It will generate a code that you can copy and paste into this message field. You don't have to sign in or join unless you wish to save your information for next time.

I much prefer shipping domestically. I've shipped to the states indicated below, and sent one book up to... I think it was Montreal.

Cool! Thanks so much for the correct website. I think I have done it correctly but how did you put your map(s) in your post?

The credit in the lower right-hand corner says something about Google, but it may just be from something that uses Google.

It's a screencap from a google map (satellite view with no labels). I don't link to it directly (it's listed as a private map) because in most of the cases I use the addresses to mark the locations. Blue marks where I've sent to and green where I've received from....
It's actually very easy to keep it up to date and it's been fun to see it fill up...

Ah! I've used Google MyMaps for yard sales, but never thought of it for this. I think I'll start doing that...

And the yellow pin in... northern Italy, it looks like?
19brigneti
>18 AnnaClaire: That's a user that I've exchanged books with both ways (I sent her 2 books in Spanish and she sent me one in Italian). there's another yellow pin in Peru, but it's underneath the home marker and another blue pin....

Updated Map!
I sent out another book since I posted my map in post #3. Turns out I'd also missed a state, too.

Ok, I'll try :)
You have to set up a Google Map of your own, on google.com/maps, click on My Maps, Create New Maps. It'll ask you to log in with a google account (or create one).
Basically to add a new placemark you can search for the address (this works for the US, Canada, UK and at least some other countries), click on the search result marker and select Save to My Maps. Or you can add a place mark by clicking on the symbol (beside the hand) on the top left corner of your map when you are editing it. Either way you can edit your own information (name, description, icon) for the placemark. Click on Done and that's it I think. I used the Satellite view without labels for the screencap, but there's also a Map view.
You can also link to the map directly or embed it (like Sarah's map on her bio here: http://bookmooch.com/m/bio/sorchah) but I don't because my map has some addresses and it doesn't seem like a good idea :S). I thought later on that it would've probably been better to use zip codes or just cities for the placemarks (I'll do that when I can't find the street, but I've found out that it's fun to try and find the approximate spot on cities that don't have the streets mapped.)
Edited to correct a word usage that may cause confusion... English isn't my first language so I do what I can...

They are not actually addresses, though it may appear that way. They are just within the city limits and near enough to the city name that I can remember.
If you were to go stalking moochers with that map, you would have bad luck, I assure you, unless you had been doing tons of research (including stalking me).
Thanks for sharing how you did yours. :)

Re #9 -- Hey heyjude, when your map image is created by World66 (or whichever other you use), that site will give you a specific bunch of text which translates, in computer language, into your particular map.
Copying and pasting that text to your Bio will result in an image of the map showing up there.
To do that, all you have to do is highlight and COPY that text (just highlight it and press 'Control' and 'C' at the same time) then go to BookMooch, sign in to edit your profile, and PASTE that text in your Bio (press 'Control' and 'V' for View to make the text paste itself there).
Best of luck, and have fun!

No, no... that didn't come out right. When I add placemarks, I just do a search for the address and then save that to my map. So if you where to look close to where the placemark is located you could more or less find the addresses, which is why I don't link to it just in case. I wasn't trying to say that you do that with your map, and I sort of know you don't with yours because I'm in it so I looked at that placemark....
It would be kind of crazy for someone to go stalking moochers, but I think a screencap is what works for me best.
