I thought it might interest LibraryThing types to know that the author (Alexander McCall Smith) - he of The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency fame - is writing a new online serial novel called ((Corduroy Mansions)) here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/onlinenovel

Ok, OK, I work on the project, so I'm not exactly a disinterested observer, but it's definitely worth taking a look if you're a fan of McCall Smith, or just curious about the development of serialised fiction.

He's publishing a chapter a day every weekday for 100 weeks, with podcasts read by Andrew Sachs (otherwise known as Manuel in Fawlty Towers) running alongside. And if that hasn't convinced you, there's a dog with a waggy tail: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/exclusions/alexandermccalls...

Hi cerilizzie. There was already another thread about Corduroy Mansions, and that is where I got my info from.
I have been reading it since the beginning and love it! Every morning I look forward to reading a new chapter, which I get in my e-mail. How can one not enjoy anything written by Alexander McCall Smith?
:-))

Hi aluvalibri, thanks for letting me know about the other thread, and really glad you're enjoying Corduroy Mansions! I work for the Telegraph website and it's been such a nice project to be involved in - Alexander McCall Smith is just as charming in real life as you'd expect.

I had no doubt about that. He must be a very relaxing person to be with, and with a dry wit. Please tell him he is very much appreciated. I will definitely buy the book when it comes out in 2009.

Thank you for this info - I'm a huge fan and always high on the library waiting list for the latest Mme. Ramotswe, Isabel Dalhousie, or the 44 Scotland Street series. An unbelievably prolific author - I would certainly have predicted him to be as charming and witty as you say.
