I just wanted to let everyone here know I got Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler for 75 cents from a Thrift Store. It looks like it would be a fast, fun read and I can't wait until I can begin reading the book. Is anyone out there familiar with the book?

I bought the book completely on impulse because the name of the book just happened to catch my eyes. I had never heard of or read anything else by Laurie Viera Rigler. If I like the book well enough I might try to find any other books she may have written.

I've read this book and thought it was just okay. It was definitely a light read and an interesting concept. I did like that it brought to light some things you don't think about when reading Jane Austen or those following in her footsteps (Regency/Historical genre), ie, her monthly cycle.
I just don't understand why it happened however and that just bothers me.

i really really didn't enjoy this book. like you beatles, i picked it up on an impulse cause it sounded interesting. the title was about as interested as i got, though. sure, the details she threw in about what living in the period was like was interesting and i even kinda liked the premise.
but the writing was horrid. and the story made absolutely NO sense. it went no where. here is this woman preaching about how marriage is this terrible institution at the time, where women are basically acquired for childbearing, and then she's moping for pages and pages about how she wanted to get married so badly that she ignored frank's faults and his skirt chasing. and the ending... well, it just ended. it was like the author realized she had reached an acceptable page number and just decided to stop there. AHHHH!
i'm so disappointed.

I thought it was umm...cute. But I agree atlargeinthewrld, that the ending just ends and you're left with nothing. As I said in my short review of it, i'm not sorry I read it, but i'll never read it again.

I recently read it as well and thought it was amusing. Especially the part where she actually meets Jane in the streets of London - that was funny. But at times I felt a bit uneasy about the plot, not the best book ever. But I also liked the descriptions of what things are really like: it got a bit closer to reality than what I usually imagine when reading Jane's books.
And it made me curious on how the Regency girl had survived in her shoes in New York...
