I thought it would be fun that we took pics of the presents before we open them so we can appreciate the pretty and shiny wrappers before we tear them apart...

Um too late. It's Christmas morning here and presents don't stay wrapped for too long.

ETA:
Because I was so good this year, Santa was very generous. I got:

a familiar looking manky old dinosaur foot *now I know what he meant by the face dropping*
a bottle of chanel mademoiselle EDP
4 new pandora beads
2 playstation 2 games - thanks Mr A I'm sure I''ll enjoy playing the Incredible Hulk *rolls eyes*
face cream

I love this part of Christmas

Dec 24, 2008, 5:35 pm

Wow. People wrap presents before December 24th? ;) My tree has three gifts under it. They're from my father and arrived on Monday. Everything I've wrapped is hidden away from the cats in my room. I want to set one of them out, though, because the bag came with an alarm system to be able to tell if anyone is tampering with it. (I kid you not!)

I thought of Mandy today while I was shopping. I found the cutest panada bear! It's animated and makes all kinds of cute sounds. I really wanted to buy one.

Gifts...
I accidentally saw one early. My mother got me the quilt I've been looking at for the past three years. I walk by it all the time when I'm out shopping. It's so pretty! I'll take a picture but obviously can't today.

10pollysmith
Dec 24, 2008, 8:40 pm

whats a panada bear?

11jugglingpaynes
Dec 24, 2008, 9:54 pm

I think it's the same as a panada dog. ;o)

12MrAndrew
Dec 25, 2008, 4:25 am

Is that a panda bear from canada?

I just saw this thread and thought, before we open them...oh oh.
Then i saw #2. Maybe we should re-wrap them?

Ok, so i got...dum dum dum *drumroll*... Egg rings!
*crowd goes wild* YAAAAAAAAAAAY!
And they still have the price tag on, so I can exchange them if i want. For another $2.99 gift. Yay!

Of course, that's not all I got. I also got...

*drumroll starts again*

Onion goggles! yes, they make specialised glasses for wimpy onion cutters like me! Yay! I look like The Flash when i'm wearing them. Or maybe a dweeb.

Oh, and a PS2 (yes, PS2, not 3, our PS2 is broken and we have old games that are probably unplayable on a PS3), and some games... lets see: God of War II, GTA, Sopranos, a motorbike racing game. Cool stuff. I might start playing games again. Hopefully not obsessively.

>#4: LOL.

Here's the gift pile, before we demolished it:

And here's a bonus: Sophie, with her favorite Christmas present:

14jugglingpaynes
Dec 25, 2008, 9:06 am

I'm sorry, but I really need a picture of the onion goggles. While they're in use. :o)

My childhood is haunting me. All I can think of is Goggles Paizano. (hopes someone figures out the reference)

We don't really put the presents under the tree, at least not long enough for a picture. And Santa was sneaky with the kids this year. The gifts were hidden in various places with only a thin ribbon of wrapping paper to give a hint about their location. ;o)

MrA this thread is not only for pictures from the presents you can also list the things that you received this christmas...

My family got the most awesome DVD collection from my sister's family, but I don't know if I can talk about as it is a TV show that isn't released yet because of the stupidity and greed of the production company. It's a TV show that I desperately wanted to show to my kids while they were young enough to appreciate it!

17pollysmith
Dec 25, 2008, 4:45 pm

i got my cook pots, a really nice set!

18biblioholic29
Dec 25, 2008, 8:39 pm

#16: Well that was confusing!

I didn't get any pictures of our pile yesterday. It was pretty good, but there were 9 people there, one of whom was the only child/grandchild/nephew, so most of the gifts were for him!

I got a nice throw, the new Guitar Hero for PS2, an iHome (hooray for sisters who work for Apple!), a target gift cert., an Amazon gift cert., an iTunes gift cert., various chocolate and kitchen stuff.

19jugglingpaynes
Dec 25, 2008, 8:52 pm

*snort!* Sorry to confuse you! I'm thinking my moral dilemma out loud. :o)

Let me pose it as a hypothetical question:

If a production company refuses to release an old TV show that you would buy in a minute, is it wrong to get it from someone who "knows people"? I would still be willing to buy it when it's really released.

If I'm not making sense, it's the excess sugar in my system.

20biblioholic29
Dec 25, 2008, 8:57 pm

Ahhh....now I see. It's hard to feel bad for such companies in this day and age (you tube and all). If they want the money, they should do something to get the money otherwise...*shrug* Oh well!

21MellieT
Dec 25, 2008, 9:42 pm

Ok, I haven't been on so our pile was also demolished, but here is what we got.:

I recieved a papasan chair, 80 dollars in B&N gift cards, dress pants, Brisinger, and a bunch of odds and ends from stockings...

Tom recieved, a torque wrench, 36 piece screwdriver set, a t-shirt that says snap-on (popular tool brand) and other odds and ends...

2206nwingert
Dec 25, 2008, 9:52 pm

I received a new iPod, Borders gift cards (which I've already spent at Borders online on a new French dictionary, the Petit Robert), Target gift cards (which I plan on spending in early 2009 on an iPod case), and a trip to Nice, France over New Year's Eve.

>#22: I think you hit the jackpot.

I don't really care much for gifts, but I like that my mom got each of us kids a framed picture from our childhood in the Philippines. I think my dad gave my mom the best present of this year though...he's going to go to the doctor and work on getting his back fixed which will entail major surgery. She cried. My niece got the most gifts being the first granchild and all.

24jugglingpaynes
Dec 25, 2008, 10:55 pm

We spent Christmas with my mom and two of my uncles and aunts. They are very generous. I'm feeling a bit cheap right now because we had very little to give, mainly baked treats.

I received a beautiful vase, a candy jar full of peppermint sticks, an interactive DVD game of Discovery's Planet Earth, a Trader Joe's gift card, and a Cuisinart electric knife (my favorite gift!)

25Renald128
Edited: Dec 26, 2008, 1:08 am

Well here in my family we didn't use to give each other gifts but I got to convince them that we should buy each of us gifts so this is what i got:

A gorgeous red sweater with navy blue stripes from my mom.
A brown chemise shirt from my sister.
A pair of nice flip-flops from my brother.
Some pairs of pants from my mom again.

And from my friends:

Some magnetix game sets(it's a toy that has magnets on it and it's kinda like lego).
Mika's "Life in cartoon motion" cd (which I couldn't find anywhere :D).
A nice T-shirt.

But the best gift was by far the chance to spend time with my friends and family (and if that sounds cheesy and cliché I'm sorry but it's true :$)

#23 tiegster:
The best of luck to your father!

#24 JP:
Don't feel that way! You're making me want to go up to my aunt and tell her to not worry over the same thing.

KIK! My family's quoting Princess Bride! Stop rhyming, I mean it! ... Anybody want a peanut?

One of my sisters gave each of us a kiddie towel. (It's the kind with an animal head you wear over your own head.) She said the ladybug one was for me because she remembered the time our kid sister said as a toddler, "Oh, look, a ladybug!" and pointed on my bedroom wall. Turns out, it was a spider. I had of course majorly freaked out, more so for only just having had my back surgery and not being able to get up and away from the spider without help. Funny girl, she is.

My mom gave me a grinning cheshire cat to put on my bookshelves, a CD/iPod/radio/alarm clock that works for my iPod shuffle, five pairs of socks, a B&BW lambie blanket, a very soft pink sweater, and a news headline game called "Man Bites Dog."

I also got an ornament with a picture of my family on it, a blue carpet rug for my wooden floor, chocolate covered pretzels, and Eats, Shoots, and Leaves.

Dec 26, 2008, 10:19 am

Hubby & I were going to just say Vegas was our present, so of course we got each other stuff. He got me 3 new T-shirts and a mug. The T-shirts are: Adam from Mythbusters "I reject your reality and substitute my own" "Knitting is Knotty" and "Hyperbole is the BEST THING EVER!!" (suge would like that one) The mug is from Engrish.com and says "I hate my self and I want to die."

I got him a Sterling Cooper shirt, a Mythbusters shirt "failure is always an option" and a Mexican wrestler calendar.

I certainly sounds like everyone had a lovely Christmas! My gifts included:

-sweater and coordinating necklace
-cute holiday sign for our front door
-four ornaments: a red star, two glass presents, a crystal snowflake
-soft fuzzy blanket
-table runner, coordinating cloth napkins and candles
-mixing/serving bowls with lids
-food processor
-four books for the coming baby: Yertle the Turtle, The Little Red Caboose, Scuffy the Tugboat, and Where Do Kisses Come From?
-two books to help raise the baby: Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads (this was for my husband) and The Self-Esteem Trap: Raising Confident and Compassionate Kids in an Age of Self-Importance

My husband also received several food prep-related gifts which leads me to believe that our families are intending to be invited over a lot for dinner!

40tiegster
Dec 27, 2008, 11:35 am

I got:
-milk frother
-whistling teakettle
-Kenilworth Estate tea
-personal teapot from a coworker
-pop rocks
-a spatula
-Burt's Bees stuff
-a tea scoop
-a framed picture of the four of us 'kids' with my dad on our motorcycle in the Philippines
-and last night I got a B&N gift card by winning a game...my mom has to bribe the family into playing games.

>#39: I often wonder at peoples' motives for gift they give like that. It's like, "So really this is a present to yourself, right?"

41grkmwk
Dec 27, 2008, 11:42 am

#40: In all honesty, I do believe that we were given these gifts because our families know we enjoy cooking, and having family & friends over to eat (we'd rather fix a good meal than go out). However, given that a new grandchild is coming next summer, I'm sure there were some ulterior motives in there somewhere!

Oh, I forgot to mention that we both received model John Deere tractors from my dad! He's given me and my sister model tractors (not always John Deere) every Christmas for 15 years now, but this was the first year my husband received one - he was thrilled!

#35 Bella:
Watch out for your cat thinking it's soft, too. ;) I don't let the cats directly on either of my lambie blankets. (I have one from last year so I have both colors.) I'm afriad of my cats ruining them. They can have any other blankets I have. ;)

I got $15 in giftcards to buy food while on breaks. One card is from my company and the other from my boss.

45jugglingpaynes
Dec 27, 2008, 8:43 pm

But K, they love lambie blankets! We have some sheepskins that we used for laying the children on when they were babies and our cats inherited them. Hobgoblin has a "special" relationship with one of them. ;o)

46Kerian
Dec 27, 2008, 11:23 pm

KIK! I bet they love them! My mother never thought to keep her lambe blanket away from the cats so her's looks much different from the one I got the same year. Tumble bites blankets so I'm nervous of her on blankets anyways, but Aloft is okay when she isn't trying to knead them. "Wait, let me stay here! I really knead this blanket!" *claws yank*

47jugglingpaynes

Hey all!!

I've just got back to London following a lovely week in the countryside. It seems everyone had a great christmas too - (apologies if anyine didn't - I haven't caught up properly yet.)

I was very lucky this year. My swag includes:

New bedding
Books (on travel and orangutans; a biography, and two novels)
Book gift card
Bath stuff
Make up stuff
Picture frame
Vase
Candles
A cuddly orangutan! (to practise on before borneo!)
and a blanket with a pocket to put your feet in!

(Now why do I get the feeling that last one will prompt something on the rumour thread??!)

50Kerian

Some of my family members received blankets with sleeves.

Dec 28, 2008, 9:46 pm

My kid sister just handed me a box and said she forgot to give it to me for Christmas. It has a necklace and pair of earrings inside. The pendant on the necklace is the letter 'K.' (Some of you know my name starts with a 'C' but her name for me is kk.)

52Renald128
Dec 28, 2008, 11:27 pm

Aww that's a nice nickname! You should wear the pendant and freak people who know how to spell your name and see how many of them comment on the letter "k" :D

53Kerian
Dec 29, 2008, 2:46 am

Thank you. I don't think that it would freak anyone out but it would be funny to wear at work where people can see my name clearly starts with a different letter. ;) I'm going to wear it tomorrow.

54Renald128
Dec 29, 2008, 11:01 am

Ok but you can still count how many people point out that your name starts with a "c" and not a "k" and tell us....:D

55Kerian

As soon as I got to work, my boss complimented the necklace. That was the only comment I received from it. I was also in the stock room working alone half the day, though.

Dec 29, 2008, 10:53 pm

Well hey, at least you got a compliment! Sounds like that's better than what's been going on...

I got a new pair of skis!! This is my first brand new pair, I've always had used ones. And boy, they worked GREAT on the powder today!!

And some flannel pj pants
and a long bathrobe for those chilly mornings
and two bookmarks
Burt's Bees stuff
B&BW stuff
a couple CDs (One being Josh Groban!!!)
some sheet music

It was one of the best christmasses I've ever had...but not just because of the presents. :) All the snow helped.

57LadyN

87MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 12:18 pm

lol I like Jess better than Dean too. I actually got into a really heated debate with a friend about that one. Kirk (i think he spells it that way) is funny but I think he is also a little creepy at times haha. I wouldn't want to live next to him and his mother... and I wouldn't want to come home and find him sleeping naked in my boat kik

88MrsGrinch
Jan 19, 2009, 12:20 pm

I know right. Jess is just better. I think you are kind of "supposed" to like Dean better because he was there first, but when the first episode I ever saw has Jess as her boyfirend so I always liked him better. What do you think of Logan?

89MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 12:27 pm

I like Logan for the most part because he is a "bad boy" lol.. I like the way he gets Rory to try new things and such. One of my favorite episodes is actually "you jump, I jump Jack" where she does a story for the Yale daily news on the Life and Death Brigade. I have to say though I am glad she didn't wait for Jess... even though they made a cute couple...

IMO yeah you are "supposed" to like Dean because he was first, but I think they also want you to like him because he is the typical boy next door. He loves you, your family, and does chores around you house lol.

90MrsGrinch
Jan 19, 2009, 12:30 pm

Right. I like Logan too. He is such a player though. I love that episode!!!

I love the epidsode "A Tiscket a Tascket" The one with Rorys basket?? I love it because it has Lorelie and Luke romance and Rory and Jess romance. Lorelie and Luke make the best couple!

91MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 12:35 pm

I liked that episode too. I actually just watched it yesterday. I love the Lorelai Luke romance... i thought it was incredibly funny when the town had a meeting about it though. I was really upset with the last episode of the last season I want to know how everything turned out!!!!!

Logan is a player, but I love him cause in the end he wants to settle down for Rory, which is wonderful.

(lol, I think we made this the GG thread )

Oh yeah this soo the GG thread now. I was mad about the kast episode too. I'm glad they were at least together though. Yah Logan is really sweet....with Rory. He was a jerk that one time with Jess. I hate it when Rory and Lorelai were in that huge fight and Rory stayed at Emily an Richards.

93MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 12:52 pm

I hated the whole fight thing too. It completely went against the whole GG thing. He was a jerk with Jess.. but it was cute to see his jealous haha.. Now I have to watch it. I am probably going to put it on in a bit cause there really isn't n e thing on here.

Speaking of Emily and Richard what's your take on them... In the begining I loved Richard and Hated Emily

I would have chosen the pink ribbon in that town meeting....but I don't know what you were talking about...

95MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 1:00 pm

lol.. you would have been on Lorelai's side Ron? I would have never been able to choose! I like both Lorelai and Luke and I think I would have taken Rory's approach...

The town meeting I ws referring too was the one where Taylor was trying to get everyone to vote against lorelai and luke having a relationship at all... and Luke freaked out and told everyone to shove off... in other words of course.

Jan 19, 2009, 1:07 pm

I know Bella...I watched that show and still do...I was being sarcastic...It's really hard to express sarcasm in a post...

But yeah I really like that show and didn't you say awww in the last episode when luke sewed that tent for rory's party?

And I like Jess too, Dean was way too perfect and had no secrets and was not the brightest in the bunch (getting married at a young age, not going to college, I mean Come ON)....

Well talk to you girls later, I have to go to work but do keep going about the show I'll read the posts later :P

P.S. Loved the Pop culture references too (learnt a lot from them too)

97MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 1:23 pm

Lol Ron, I'm sorry....

I absolutley said aww, I even teared up when he sewed that tent for Rory's party. I loved it and I always knew that Luke would be the best step dad for Rory.

I agree about Dean not being the brightest. Plus Him and Rory didn't have ANYTHING in common at all.

I love talking about GG because I can never find anyone around me who watches it. Not to mention all of my real friends are on HE lol..

93> I like them some of the time. Most of the time Im just like SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE AND LET LORELIA DO WHAT SHE WANTS!!! I hated it when they got "divorced" though. That sucked. What are your feelings on Christopher?

99MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 2:47 pm

I hated the divorced/seperated" thing too. Because she needs him to balance out her evilness.

I like Christopher except for the fact that he tried to break up Luke and Lorelai, granted it was becuase of Emily that he was at the vow renewal at all but still he didn't have to be such a jerk to Luke when he was worried about Rory. Not to mention Luke was in the right there. He was the one who help Lorelai raise Rory while Christopher was absent t. I was really upset that Lorelai and Christopher got married though. They don't belong together the way Luke and Lorelai do.

Right at the moment I am watching the episode where Jess crashes Rory's car and breaks her wrist. I am not looking forward to the Luke Lorelai fight at the end of this episode though.

100MrsGrinch
Jan 19, 2009, 2:51 pm

I know that sucked. I hate it when they fight.

At least Lorelia and Luke end up together though.

101MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 2:54 pm

yeah. That is a good thing. I was a little torn about the whole Logan proposing to Rory thing though. I didn't want her to settle down but I did want her to be with him. I was angry that he gave her the all or nothing ultimatum considering that their relationship survived while he was in England.

I really want to see Lorelai and Lukes wedding. I am hoping that they are actually going to make that movie that they were talking about at the end of the last season, that way we can tie up all of the loose ends. I am really sad that I don't really know what happened with everyone. I mean Rory was supposed to be following around Barack Obama right? well whats happening now that he is president? Did she return to stars hollow? etc.. I know I think way to much into these things.

I would love to see Lorelias and Lukes wedding. It would be the most adorable thing in the world if they got married in the diner. I kinda thought the Logan thing was a little romantic. Kinda pushy though. Apparently Lauren Graham can sing. She is going to be in the new remake of Bye Bye Birdy. I want the continuation movie too.

Xmas is finally done, we had our final family celebration with Mandy and her hubby this weekend, so my last couple gifts were a tin of blooming tea and a bottle of Sam Adam's Chocolate Bock. (The lesson from these gifts: Alcohol or non-Alcohol, doesn't matter as long as I can drink it!)

Hmm... I haven't really been following any news on the charactars... I am afraid I will be dissapointed cause they are the gilmore girls in other movies/tv shows lol.. I did watch both sisterhood of the travelling pants movies and i liked Lauren Graham in The Pacifier but other then that I'm not sure.

I don't know about at the diner but I think a nice town square wedding would be nice and the reception in the diner. I don't think there would be enough room in the diner for everyone who would have to attend the wedding lol.

there are a few other details I have been trying to work out but can remember any of them. I really like the episode that Jess and Rory get together, but I don't like how Dean breaks up with Rory in front of an audience.

105MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 3:25 pm

oh, yeah did you know there are books based on Gilmore Girls. I found that out while looking on the GG wiki.

106MrsGrinch
Jan 19, 2009, 3:29 pm

I know the Dean thing was sucky. But I loved the one where Lorelia and Luke get together. I know they couldnt really get married in the diner but it would be cute and symbolic if it where possible. I also love when Lane got married.

I wish we could see Lorelia and Luke's wedding too. I always had such a soft spot for Luke, i wanted to work in the dinner

Another soft spot for Jess, he wasn't nearly as messed up as everyone wanted him to be. He was just confused

On Logan and Rory, I wished they had decided on a long engagement. Just cause there's a ring doesn't mean you have to run off to a chapel. His ultimatium was stupid, but I thinks he was a little stupid to. I did love how he went to Lorelia first I was like you go boy

I didn't like the whole story line with her out of Yale. THat seemed too....overly dramatic. Very un-Rory

108MrsGrinch
Jan 19, 2009, 3:47 pm

I know. I think Luke is my favorite character. He is just sooo sweet and funny. I remember when he was trying to teach Lorelia to fish. That was soo sweet. And when he got here that little ice rink.

109gpwts
Jan 19, 2009, 3:51 pm

Ice skating was definetly one of my favorite moments

I just liked how he'd grumble, or shout, but always let Lorelia get away with whatever she wanted

Like when the inn burns down and she takes over the diner
Or in the same episode when he lets her sleep there cuz she's a nomad *I have no hoooome*

*Yes, I own all the seasons*

110MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 3:53 pm

I know, Luke is very sweet. I loved all of his little gestures with lorelai and how even before they got together he favored her in a way. Not to mention the fact that he kept that horoscope for 8 years! That was adorable.

I agree with you G about how Rory leaving Yale just didn't seem her. She was always so level headed about everything. I also agree about how Logan went to Lorelai first about the proposal. It was awesome. I really liked that part. And I too wished that they would have agreed on a long engagement.

When Lane got married I thought that was wonderful. I also liked how Ms. Kim started accepting Lane for who she was after a while. I was glad that they didn't need to stop communicating completly. I really liked how they got her to her baby shower.

111MrsGrinch
Jan 19, 2009, 3:54 pm

I only own 1-3 I need to get the other ones.

I loved when Lorelia lost the chick then Luke came over to look for it. And when Paul Lanke (no idea how to spell that) was sick.

I personally loved Ms. Kim explination of sex

114MellieT
Jan 19, 2009, 3:58 pm

lol me too . I forgot about that! I own all of the seasons and watch them religiously.

I do have to say that Carol Kings character Sophie comes off as mean when she first opens the music store in Stars Hollow.

I liked how he was like "i was looking for a chick" and dean said yeah, me too lol. Like they were doing something bad.

I also almost died laughing when Luke pushed Jess into the river after leaving the school, when taylor told Luke that Jess stole the money for the bridge, lol. That was one of my favorite Luke/ Jess parts.

115MrsGrinch
Jan 19, 2009, 4:01 pm

I loved in the "A Tiscket a Tascket" episode when Jess gets Rorys bascket Taylors all "Sold to the nice young hoodlum in the back." That was soo funny.

Rewind

Jan 19, 2009, 4:18 pm

lol. I love that scene I can never get over it. I am watching Lorelai's Garduation when Rory runs off to New York to visit Jess. I am not a fan of this episode becuase she dissapoints Lorelai... and it is sad.

This is the absolute coolest gift I've ever received.

That's my son Bunky and my daughter Calyn in that cube. Technology is AWESOME!
Calyn also got me tickets to see Riverdance in March. I can't wait!

Hub got me a 320 gb external hard drive that I still don't know if I'm using correctly.
