Didn't quite make 50 in 2009. Here's hoping 2009 gives me more time to read!

1. The Diary of Anais Nin, Volume 1 by Anais Nin

Good luck! I made it to exactly 50 -- not sure I'll be able to do it in '09.

eta: you're already off to a good start.

You've read 2 books in 6 days? If you keep going like that, getting to 50 won't be a problem :-)

I managed 51 last year myself. Going for at least 52 now (1 per week).

Good luck with your challenge!

I post them as I start to read them. And sometimes I'm reading more than 1 at a time. I started off pretty good last year, but got side tracked with other things later in the year (not all of them by choice). Hopefully, I can maintain a book a week average.

9. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

10. New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

My daughter is reading the Twilight series, so I thought I'd check it out. I'm actually enjoying the books - not quite literary award winning material, but the books are well written and easy to read.

Hi, Hope!
I am planning to read these books as well. Not sure when, but I hope this year. My girls both loved them. Have a great day!

11. Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

BJ - I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality. This third book doesn't do a whole lot to advance the plot, but it gives a good bit of background information, but in such a way that it doesn't come across as an "information dump".

12. Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer (I'm sharing this with my daughter as she is still reading it, so I grab it when I can :)

13. T is for Trespass by Sue Grafton

14. 3. The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck

Is that the Steinbeck of The Grapes of Wrath? I never would have thought of him writing about King Arthur.

>15 hopeglidden: How is that Sue Grafton series? I've been meaning to try one of those books for ages! Does it make a difference which one you start with or do you recommend starting with A?

I clicked on the above link again and looked at the other books by Steinbeck, and I think it is someone different from the one I am thinking of. It looks like quite a good book, though.

Yep, that's Steinbeck of Grapes of Wrath fame. The King Arthur book is actually a direct reinterpretation of Thomas Mallory's Le Morte D'Arthur, which Steinbeck never finished before he died. Let me know how that one was, Hope. I'm a big Steinbeck idolizer as well as an Arthurian legend buff, so it sounds like a literary dream come true. I like the rest of your list so far as well!

Wow. . .I've been away from here too long. :)

re: Steinbeck. . .Although incomplete, I was fairly impressed with this book. I'm not even sure how I discovered it, but I remember being thrilled because Steinbeck was one of my favorite authors when I was in high school.

I believe he was merely attempting to modernize Mallory's English, so it is fairly easy to read. Next on my reading list is Mallory's version, so I then be able to tell you how Steinbeck compares.

#17 - The Sue Grafton novels are pretty good. The first few in the alphabet didn't overly impress me (her writing style more so than the story) but you can definitely see her writing improve along the way.

to # 25 - I am now on book #8 in that series. . .so, yes I found it enjoyable. :) I am taking a break because that's all I've been reading lately, but I really do like her writing style.
