Hi, belgrade18!
You are off to a great start on your reading challenge. What did you think of the Lincoln bio? I am planning to read biographies of all the presidents. (Although, I have not gotten too far, yet!)

Hi belgrade18;
What an awesome group of books you have picked to begin your challenge. Do you not LOVE Ernest Gaines? Such a descriptive and "earnest" author. (sometimes I just can't help myself) Well, welcome aboard. I hope you enjoy this group as much as I am and good luck with your challenge.
Happy reading and blessings on your day.

This bio of Lincoln is quick and dirty- it gives the basics of his life, but isn't very complex or analytical- which is exactly what I was looking for areound the time of the Inauguration.

13. Jane Smiley: Greenlanders

Thanks for the info on the Lincoln bio. :) What did you think of Greenlanders?

A review of Greenlanders I wrote on Facebook:
A long drawn out epic saga about Norse Greenland in its years of decline in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. She takes an anthropological approach to how the Greenlanders lived and how their society declined- it reminded me a lot of Ursula K. Le Guin. She also followed several particular individuals and families over several generations- sometimes it was confusing to remember who everyone was. Overall I recommend it, though I'll have to admit it took me forever to get all the way through it.

15. John Wyndham: The Day of the Triffids

I read that book last year and just loved it. For ages it seems, I had been looking for the movie to come on tv. I hadn't seen it since I was a teenager (a very long time ago!) but I had always remembered. Then when I discovered that there was a book, that was even better. It was a Cold War style book, I remember. I hope that you enjoyed it, too.
Have a wonderful day!
