I am usually in a recliner chair, with a book in my lap and this comfortable afghan around my legs. It's why I fall asleep so often while reading!

well depends on the situation. I could be reading in the car in which case I am just sitting. I could be reading in bed, or I could be on our Chaise. Sometimes I read while lieing on my stomach.

I prefer to either sit or lounge on my couch while I'm reading, but I don't often get to do this as the couch is in the same room as the television and I don't like to read while the TV is on. Sigh. I often read in or on my bed instead.
I also do a fair amount of my reading outside of the house, while I'm on my breaks at work or while I'm on the bus. On the bus, I obviously just read in my seat; at work I find a comfortable, out of the way spot on the floor or in the cafeteria. (I work in a university).

The vast majority of the time it is on the couch, in the living room with the book propped on my more than generous stomach. (I have my own table!)

I used to do a lot of outside reading, at lunch times in my previous job - sometimes in the cemetary (not as bleak and weird as it sounds, I promise), sometimes at the base of a multi-storey car park (honestly I'm not that strange, I just didn't have a lot of places to chose from back then), and sometimes on a bench inbetween a row of shops, though mostly on an old, moss-covered wooden bench outside the town church... since then I've graduated to reading indoors at lunchtime (I'm in a better job now ;-)
As for at home, I tend to read either in the comfy chair beside the lamp downstairs, or if it's later on in the night, then upstairs on the bed (though this tends to end with me dropping the book on my face as I fall asleep reading... not a pleasant experience, and it certainly wakes you with a jolt)

I half sit, half lay on the couch, resting the book on the big arm of it. I will miss this couch, old as it is, when I move (it came with the apartment). I like it best when my cat lays down next to me, but I'm too restless for him to stay more than 5 or 10 minutes.
I read in the bath - I will also miss this bathtub when I move. It is huuuuge.
And I read most of all when I'm in bed, either laying on my stomache with the book on the bed (particularly for larger books), on my back holding the book up, or sometimes even on my side.

I usually read on my bed because the family room is so busy. I also read outside if the weather is nice.
I used to read through lunch at the local park and that was wonderful! I changed jobs and I'm not longer able to get to the park as often.

I read mostly in/on my bed, propped up against the wall, on one arm or another, or laying on my stomach - but not on my back. I feel like a sunbather, sometimes... I've been on this side for 15 minutes... turn!
I prefer reading in the comfy reclining chair in the living room, but only when my roommates aren't home - that chair's the most coveted seat in the house.

Only place in this house I get any peace from my cats is when I read at the kitchen table. Actually its turned out to be more of a desk then a place to actually eat at. I have to have a flat surface to lay a book on or my hands will go numb holding a book for a very long period of time. Forget trying to read in bed. I fall asleep within minutes.

When I go to the YMCA to work out I usually read. Also, my 6 y.o. has a bunk bed with the bed on top and a chair underneath. He still likes me to sit with him when he goes to bed so I read in the chair with a flashlight while he falls asleep. I've also been doing a lot of reading in bed lately which I is not something I've done a lot of before.

I used to love to read in the morning, after breakfast. I'd sit on one of the love-seats, and curl up with one of my pets, and sip my tea or coffee. I don't get to do too much of that lately. I also read in bed at night, for as long as I can hold my eyeballs open.

just three places where i can really plow into lots of pages:
1) in bed, tucked in, with chips and iced tea within a hand's reach
2) a cafe, with hot coffee slowly sipped
3) beneath a beach umbrella, on a reclining chair by the sea

I can read pretty much anywhere.
I like to read while sat in a comfy chair with something sweet to snack on near by and a drink.
But will also lay in bed with lots of pilliows and read there. I used to be able to read laying on my tummy with my book in front of me but since having my daughter via c-section this has become very very uncomfortable.
Everything has healed but it still doesn't feel nice.:(

Usually I read in bed - I like to read in the living room but when the TV's on I get distracted and can't read...
Also, I read seated at the bus or boat (commuter boat), and waiting for those I read standing up.
To read during work/breaks is impossible. If my mind strays from the reports/work I'm doing the quality tumbles, and I really like to give my clients the very best. It's worse enough that I have started to LT during work hours ;-)
(Fortunately I work in the web/internet business and watching online behaviours and trends is one of my duties. So I don't have to hide /too much/ from the eyes of my boss!)
I really like reading at the beach, sunbathing, but I haven't been able to do that a lot these last summers. Having a small kid seems to do that to you ;-) But the first summer after he was born I spent some long nice hours in the early afternoon on a bench in a park a few meters from the sea while he slept in the pram. The bench was partly shaded by a large willow... nice and quiet, the sounds of the waves lapping the roots of the tree... I distinctly remembers reading Quicksilver there and then.
I used to read at cafés, but that was in my late teens/early twenties and I'll gladly if not proudly admit that I mostly did it to seem intellectual, showing off covers printed with the names of Kafka or such. *blushes*

I can read just about anywhere, even if it's only for a couple of minutes. I read at breakfast seated at the breakfast counter and at lunch in the work canteen. I usually get in a few pages propped up in bed in the evenings.
If I'm lucky enough to get a few hours to myself, though, I curl up the armchair in the lounge next to the radiator. Preferably with a cup of herbal tea at hand. I can lose myself completely that way :-)

I can read most anywhere, except in a moving car or bus. These days, I mostly read at work. I have this job where, if it isn't busy, they will let me sit quietly at my desk with a book (I'm supposed to man the post, not go wandering about). On days where my boss knows I won't be busy she always says "I hope you brought a good book with you." When I first started here, I usually had the one book in tow. I've learned better and now have 2-3 and maybe a magazine, just in case.
At home, I mostly read on the sofa, usually with 2-3 cats in attendance. Although I like to read in bed too, but the cats think that is their time, so its a little harder.

I used to have this ancient pink stuffed rocking chair that I'd read for hours in when I was a teenager. It was always cold in my room, and I'd wrap up in blankets and read and read and read until I was stiff and sore and my back hurt.
When I moved out, I turned my nose up at the dilapidated old chair, and my sister took it, reupholsterd it and put it in my niece's room.
I wish I'd taken the darn chair.
Now I read anywhere and nowhere in particular.

Mostly in our main room in my recliner. My wife likes to remind me that that is her picture of my Dad, surrounded by TV remotes and dictionaries and crossword detritus... but I just like having my feet elevated and good light (over my left shoulder). Right now it is next to our Christmas tree and it smells rather nice, too.
Sometimes I read in bed as well, but I fall asleep rather quickly and do not make good progress there. :)

~*laughs*~ I love that so many folks here are as attached to reading as I am...
I learned a long time ago, to be able to read pretty much anywhere, in any position. Grad school and mountains of reading will do that to you! Most recently, I find myself reading while on break between teaching classes (this could be in the break room, in an empty classroom, or in my office), while walking to or from my car-- a tallent that, I promise, has been hard learning. I read while I eat, on the subway, in line, and even on occasion in the tub while trying to relax. If I read in bed, I usually fall asleep, so I have a stack of books near my bed to choose from to fall asleep to. *chuckles*

Oklahomabooklady -- Are you the sister I never had?
I read only the newspapers at my kitchen table (which is mostly covered with the detritus of my daily life, alas, and some oranges that are growing a lovely shade of mossy green) because it encourages me to get through the news quickly so I can get to my books. When my children had babies and bought rocker/gliders, I just knew my life would not be well-lived if I didn't get one for myself. So now I can usually be found in my family room, sitting, sans any measurable muscle tone, in my pale yellow rocker/glider/recliner, my body covered with a soft throw and up to three fuzzy cats in various stages of shedding. When my hands go numb, as they are wont to do, it's someone telling me I had better move around lest I become one with the chair. And reading in bed is better than an entire bottle of Ambien.
When I grew old(er), I bought one of those "sunshine" floor lamps and now I can't read without one. I might have to get one for my daughter if she wants me to babysit anymore.

Laying on my bed or sitting cross legged on the floor is where I read books. I usually read magazines at restaurants and I can read the newspaper almost anywhere.

Most comfortable position for me is lying down in bed on my side, covered up with a warm cozy blanket. Mmmmm.
Second would be the Queen Anne wingback chair in my bedroom with my feet propped up on the ottoman, covered up with a warm cozy blanket. Mmmmmm.
Third favorite would be the recliner in the living room but, blanket or no blanket, it's usually too noisy to concentrate.
Oh, and a hot cuppa tea is a must for nos. 2 and 3. :D

I read anywhere, on a couch, floor, at a desk, wherever--the important thing being that I am reading. :)
My favorite place, however, is in any chair that rocks. When I was little we had a swingset in the backyard and I would take a pile of books out with me in the morning and swing and read until dusk. I still love to be moving (rocking or swinging) when I read. Usually I'm in the recliner, but rocking instead of reclining, and sometimes I still go to a park and swing while I read.

I can read anywhere, but reading and walking is something I reserve for really boring longish walk into work, on fairly empty streets. Haven't had to do for a while. Reading on long car/bus/train/plane journeys is a must. I couldn't pass the time any other way.
At work during lunch, unless someone else initiates some conversation.
AT home - in bed often though it isn't the most comfortable. Best is the "Peel" chair with a little quiet music and a pot of tea.

I don't care to read in bed, it hurts my back, and I can't read in a moving vehicle.
I bought a lovely comfy chair and ottoman for my living room and it's my favorite place to read. I have a cat which thinks I am unable to read without her on my lap, and I do use her to prop up my books sometimes. She's a very large cat, about 17-18 lbs.
It's rare to have quiet in my house of two teenage boys, so I learn to tune out. That's why I don't read to music, I treasure quiet. I also read at table, at basketball/soccer practices, tournaments and games (not during the play, only the breaks), and any other lessons I seem to be waiting at.
