I've posted this before, but gotten no response. I've got a handful of books that show up when I search for the tag "Star Wars" in combination with other tag(s).

For example, if I search for tag:"Star Wars" tag:read, I get a bunch of Star Wars books plus three books that are not tagged "Star Wars". You can see what I mean here.

The books that consistently act this way are Heroes Die, Hardwired (Transformers), and Triplet. (And I was under the impression that Elantris was exhibiting this behavior as well, though I haven't had it come up today.)

I've tried using Power Edit to delete the non-existant "Star Wars" tag, and I've tried re-indexing my catalog. No dice. Thoughts?

Have they been tagged at all? If so, this may be a case of incorrectly combined tags.

They've been tagged, but with standard tags I use on all my books: sci-fi, fantasy, read, owned, mass market paperback, etc. If that was the problem, I'd be getting a lot more non-SW books than just this consistent handful. Plus, as I said, it's not an issue when I just pull up those books tagged "Star Wars", only when I search on two or more tags.

1: That link somehow takes me to my own library... here's one that works (I hope).

I can't seem to get at the Subjects field of the delusional books, but since there's some author overlap perhaps they've got Star Wars in the Subjects field (lots of things in Subjects don't belong). Except that shouldn't have any influence on a search you specify as being for tags only.

ETA: Forget that, I just got to look at the Subject field (had to "stop using your viewing style") and it's empty for the delusional books. I kill my fanciful theory.

2: Tags' being combined only has effect in a full site search, not within a library. You can search your library for "short story" and "short stories" and the results will be different. (If you use either or both of those tags, of course.)

Author overlap is plausible for two of the three books. The Transformers book, however, mentions "Star Wars" only in the review, and since you can search on the review field, I've been assuming that's the issue. It shouldn't be happening, of course, because I'm specifically searching tags, but there you go...

It seems like, in a multiple-parameter search in which at least one of them is looking for tags, one or both parameters get switched to "all fields". I can replicate this behavior in my own library, where a "title:" search turns up only one book, but adding a tag search as well turns up a second book, which uses the original title field in my review. I tried to find a minimal example: a single correct book and a single spurious book. The order of search parameters does not matter.

First search (correctly finds one book):

http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=lorax&deepsearch=title:hothead

Second search (finds a second book):

http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=lorax&deepsearch=tag:lgbt+title...

("hothead" appears only in my review of the second title that appears here.) It does not appear in any fields in any books other than these two.

Oh, one more permutation:

http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=lorax&deepsearch=title:hothead+...

There are no books in my catalog that should meet these criteria -- however, Chicken Rules, the one that appears, has "Hothead" in the review.

Do you want to re-report the bug with a more general subject line, so developers will know what's going on, or should I?

You can go ahead. Seems like you've got some good examples ready. Thanks.
