While looking at stuff to start building a dollhouse this past weekend, I remembered a book I read as a kid. I don't remember a lot of details, but a girl inherits a very old dollhouse with dolls and dollhouse stuff from all over the world. There is a mystery or something about a doll named Martinique or something like that. The girl can talk to the dolls, but the adults can't remember the time as kids that they could talk to the dolls too. I remember reading it more than once back in the 80's.

I'd love to read it again and share it with my girls. Any clue what this book might be? I'm doing searches, but can't come up with anything.

That's Midnight in the Dollhouse by Marjorie Stover. I loved that book as a little girl (and still have a copy, so it was easy to check; the reference to Martinique was the clincher).

Oh THANK YOU! It wasn't Midnight in the Dollhouse, but the sequel, When the Dolls Woke that I was remembering. I wasn't aware that there was another book with some of the same characters. I'm going to have to track down copies of both for me to have my girls read.

Thanks again!

3: You definitely should; they're two of my favorites. :)
