I cant remember any of the names of any of the characters and only parts of the plot. I read it in 2003, but it seemed old,may have been mostly wear form repeated readings though. here is what I remember
a woman(main female character) working ends up following a co worker to another (world?) ..a wizard and his grand son who is a warrior end up trying to help her after they almost get killed...they think the one responsible for the things going on is an evil wizards apprentice who has been locked up since the evil wizard was killed ....turns out the evil wizard had taken over the grandfathers mind...has been planing to download his memory into a computer to live forever...female main character figures it out because the spot they touch to move between worlds is to high to be anyone but the grandfather to reach...warrior grandson ends up with only one arm and sleeping with the queen..king is sleeping with a guy so he doesn't mind the queen having a boyfriend as long has he get an heir...the evil wizards apprentice ,who isn't evil,tries helping the main female stop the evil wizard but ends up getting blamed and sentenced to die...she gets sent home thinking he is dead ...but he got saved by a spirit they had helped earlier in the story and brought to her world...the spirit they helped was going crazy because something about the world they were in was poisoning him and they helped him get better....the last few lines in the book are him saying he is hungry and her saying she will get him tacos..then he asks what is a taco?
That is all I can remember,I'm sorry if that is a bit confusing but I was in an accident and my memory is a bit scrambled....I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has any ideas about what book this could be because it has been driving me crazy trying to figure it out for the last few years.

This sounds roughly like Barbara Hambly's Windrose Chronicles series, starting with The Silent Tower. There are actually 3 books at the moment; you are describing the plot as it stands by the end of book two, The Silicon Mage. (You could in fact count the series as having 4 books, but the fourth book, while set in the same universe, focuses on different characters.)
