What about volumes? I own a ten volumes "complete works of Multatuli". It's one work, but I can't register it as one work because some people may have an incomplete series. I myself have an incomplete series of the same, from different editor. Also, various volumes have different subtitles.
For a work like "Lord of the Rings" I can imagine that you just file three different books, but for a "complete works" it would be nice if you could like bundle them in your library.
I know, it's tempting to request ever more features for a website that's cool, in fact, just because it's cool you want more features :-)

Hopefully this will come in due course, it has been much discussed and requested.
There are various workaround for the volume problem depending on how purist you want to be with your library. Some people enter the volume *and* the books (tagging them appropriately) which overstates your library a little but stays with the *social* intention of linking you to people who own the same works.

I think social interaction would link people by authors, more than by books. In the case of Multatuli it is not obvious how to categorize the books. There's "complete works", there's "collected works", theres "Ideas" which contain most of the collected works", and there's issues of the various volumes under separate titles. The guy never wrote one book, he just kept writing until there were a gazillion pages, then after he died other people created books, arguing which stories should go to which book. You can imagine what happens if you catalogue the individual volumes rather than a series as a whole.

Apologies in advance for the necro, but has a version of this been created? I can't seem to figure it out, if it has been.

You cam enter the Complete Works or the individual volumes. It really depends on your personal preferences. In either case it can make sense to enter it as a series and/or in Work Relationships.
It is worth remembering that the autocombiner only liiks at the first 20 characters or until it sees a colon, so it is important to see that things have ended up in the correct work.
