Here is the situation; I have been kidnapped by a group of super intelligent alien beings, they are taking me and 999 others back to their “Zoo of Inferior Beings”. They have kidnapped me, but haven’t cut off my internet access. ;-) For super intelligent beings they are strange and perverse. They are going to drop us humans into a continent size terrarium enclosure containing several different eco-zones similar to Earth including plants and animals. They are interested in fiction as a cultural artifact so they are allowing us a huge number of fiction books. However, since they are super intelligent and perverse they see no need for Non-fiction books. So they are allowing only 10 Non-fiction books! From what I gather there are prefabricate shelters in prearrange viewing location ready for habitation, very Zoo like. Also for the most part major food and medical needs are covered. After all they don’t want their specimens to die! Sweet, better than my current health care coverage! But, if the current situation is any indication we will be living in “buildings made out of white plastic in a kind of Le Corbusier style, everyone wearing one-piece monochromatic jumpsuits, and we all eat one little pill per week to get all the nutrition we need.” (tip o’ the hat to Carnophile for the fine turn of phrase.)
Right now the self appointed Counsel of Humans is debating whether the Koran, Bible and “The Secret” are Non-fiction. The Aliens rolled their dark almond shaped eye and said “religious text are a gimme’” then they snicker a little. I am not sure what that was about.
So I need your help what 10 Non-fiction books would you recommend? I’m not sure how soon the Aliens are going to tire of watching TV shows and laughing at our space program, so please hurry before it is too late!

Dang aliens! I wish they'd leave us alone.
I'll try to appease them by saying Guns, Germs and Steel, the Oxford English Dictionary, The Art of War, Plato's Republic, Escape From Slavery by Francis Bok (more for the humans' benefit), The Outline of History volumes 1 and 2 by H.G. Wells, The Audacity of Hope (again, more for the humans), The Odyssey and Complete Works of William Shakespeare (both nonfiction if the aliens listen to Dewey).
Have fun with those, sucker!

So sad. Books by the foot. Books by color. Books for clients to busy to build their own collections. Books that "look" impressive.
*sigh*
Back to the question at hand. How about some Mark Twain? Humor is vital for survival.

If the books were for the captors, I would recommend The Complete Kama Sutra. You know, just to mess with their heads. However many they may have, if any.

oppositional digit up. Nice.
I know that it's terribly terribly rude to point out spelling errors, but i can't resist the irony of "intellignet". I can't talk of course, i habitually misspell a lot of words. I just misspelled "mispell". Thank you, almighty firefox spell checker!

The bedazzler should be a book. Anyway, i was just suggesting it as away to smarten up those monochromatic jumpsuits. There's nothing that can't be made prettier with a bedazzler.

I would include Hot, Flat and Crowded. It's a brilliant book that would provide objective evidence of how stupid the Earthlings are.
