Good news: I did a lot of cleaning today and threw out recycled a lot of paper! (I'm a major paper collector, so this is very good.)

Bad news: Now my back hurts.

Good news: It's not pulled and will feel better as soon as I go sit in a better chair or lie down.

BN- Gracie, the dog, got out of the yard this morning when Missie let her out.
BN- Missie came screaming into my bedroom to tell me about it. It took me precious seconds to find a coat that would cover my PJ top (coat necessary since shirt doesn't cover all of the Bump).
GN- Next door neighbor man, who works 3rd shift and had just gotten home, heard Missie's cries. He fetched Gracie, who of course, ran right to him which she would never do for me.
BN- I'm positive that it was our meter reader person and this is the second time this has happened. If I call and complain to the electric company I doubt anything will happen. I can't really take my frustration out on the CSR that answers since they have nothing to do with it. Maybe I should hop in the car and drive around looking for the meter reader's truck. Or maybe that's the hormones talking. 8)

Mar 26, 2009, 10:23 am

GN I'm glad Gracie has been returned to her rightful owner. MEM tell them you will read your own meter and send in the bill and then chain the gate

LOL polly!

I was going to suggest a note on the gate. Something along the lines of the note Phoebe put on Ross' sandwich...

I'm so glad Jason is doing better!

#21 MrsG:
I'm sorry your sick and about the divorce. *hugs* if you need them.

Bad news: I got two phone calls at work. My boss wouldn't put me on the phone and told me afterward that it was two of my sisters.
Worse news: They called because my kid sister had another seizure, while she was at school.
Good news: It was only a small seizure, not full blow. One of my sisters came to get me from work to be with our kid sister sooner.
Bad news: My kid sister called my phone five minutes after I was off work to tell me she had a second mini seizure.
Good news: She's been doing alright since. It's been two-in-a-half hours.

Not a good day. But, it could always be tons worse.

27LadyN
Mar 26, 2009, 8:58 pm

K, I'm sorry. That's very frightening. However, at least she's doing ok, and they weren't terrible seizures. I can't believe your boss wouldn't give you the phone though. That's awful.

28Kerian
Mar 26, 2009, 9:10 pm

#27 LadyN:
Thank you. Yes, thank goodness! Today would have been a bad day for something worse to happen. My grandparents had a plane to catch for their cruise. Today made me realize that my temp boss didn't know about my kid sister's health. I had done the mental check list, (back issues know, check) and had missed that. She knows now and felt bad about the phone and for my sister as soon as I told her.

Good news: Spring Break!
Bad news: I had an electrician here and some guys from the city and my lights still flicker and go out.
Great news: Today is my dad's 70th birthday and we had a special family dinner.
Scary news: When I got home my new furnace wasn't running.
So-so news: I just had to switch the fuse. I hope one of the guys had bumped it or something. I don't want the fuse blowing all the time.

Good news: My band had another festival and all three judges gave us superiors in performance!

Bad news: We only got an excellent in sight reading. It was a pretty hard piece though. (for those who don't know, superior is the best and excellent is the second best score you can get)

Good news: I got to miss 3 1/2 periods because of the festival! And i have barely any hw partly cause of it.

Bad news: I have to do a math poster.

Good news: I have to do a math poster.

Bad news: I got my bottom braces on Monday.

Good news: I've already had my top braces on for 6 months! Only about 1 1/2 left to go!

Good news: I'm actually doing stuff this weekend! My aunt is coming over tomorrow for a movie and pizza and on Saturday we are giving my friend a surprise b-day party! (don't tell!) ;)

31Kerian
Mar 26, 2009, 10:15 pm

Bad news: Seizure number three.

Good news: An extra dose of medicine.

*scratches head* Based on my reading, I thought it wasn't good to take any medicine besides not having and food or water after a seizure. I have to trust my mother knows more than me, though. She pours over those medical books, after all. Maybe it's just with full seizures.

Good news: My mom's leaving work early today and I should have a sister on the way here to be here just in case since I can't drive.

GN: I'm off work tomorrow. This is GN because...

BN: It's now 2.30a.m and I;ve become addicted to the funny farm word game thing. I'm now gonna heave my helpless self to bed. I've drunk a whole bottle of wine whilst trying to progress with the darned thing. Argh!

BN: I've developed a blood clot in my left leg
GN: It is superficial thrombophlebitis, not deep vein thrombosis, so there's no threat of the clot breaking off and lodging in my lung, hurting me or the baby
BN: It's painful and my leg is swollen all along the vein path
GN: Treatment is pretty simple and doesn't involve any anti-coagulants or antibiotics, just compression stockings, baby aspirin, leg elevation, heat compresses and chocolate cake (OK, well, the chocolate cake wasn't exactly proscribed by the doctor but my husband insisted as he knows how I love it!)
GN: My work has been super great about all the doctor appointments I've had the past two days
GreatN: There is absolutely NO risk to the baby's wellbeing :o)

39pollysmith
Mar 27, 2009, 10:22 am

Other News: I've lost 10 pounds in the last 7 days. This is good (since I have a lot to lose), and I'm sore. We got the Wii Fit a week ago and I've been on it every day for at least 30 minutes. I think I over did it yesterday though. I logged 1 hr and 20 minutes. The last few exercises have introduced some new muscles to me in my back.

62kirbyowns
Mar 27, 2009, 12:37 pm

Oh. Speaking of Wii, I have a question. Can you get a wireless internet hook up for it? If so, I'd love to get it because it would make things so much easier.

63Mandy2
Edited: Mar 27, 2009, 1:01 pm

If you have a wireless modem for your internet then you can connect your wii to that. It's built into the wii, you don't need to buy anything new.

Also, CONGRATS on losing 10lbs!!

64ejj1955
Mar 27, 2009, 12:59 pm

Kirby, I'm almost sure that's what my niece has for their Wii and when I googled "Wii wireless" the first thing that came up was a how-to connection guide. So, yes!

kirby,
Thank you. Congratulations for the weight loss and catching up in the HE. :)

Good news: My kid sister is doing fine today.
More good news: My sister's working on moving back home today! I had really missed her.
Plus more good news: My check wasn't right today but it's okay because I found out it's actually correct and that I got a raise.

68biblioholic29
Mar 27, 2009, 1:55 pm

Did you get a raise, or is it the stimulus package? It went into effect on March 12, so everyone's seeing a slight increase in their checks since they're taking out less taxes.

#67: K
I'm happy to hear that your sister is doing better!

GN: I finished working at my old job on Wednesday!
GN: I'm going out tonight with some friends to celebrate that a friend and me quit our respective jobs!
BN: I have a lot of reading to do for college :(

71Kerian
Edited: Mar 27, 2009, 2:17 pm

Ah! I hadn't known about that. Let me check when it started. ... It began Sunday, March 8th. I'll have to ask. That's two days after my old boss said he was supposed to find out what everyone's raises would be...though he made me think it wouldn't be till later, like April, that anyone would get a raise. Maybe it's not a raise! Goodness, how confusing. Well, I work in two hours so I will find out.

ETA:
Good luck with the reading, Ron!

72biblioholic29
Mar 27, 2009, 2:20 pm

Look at your paystub, did your rate of pay go up? Or did it stay the same? If the rate of pay went up, you got a raise and YAY for you! If the rate of pay stayed the same, but your check is higher than you expected, it's the stimulus.

73Kerian
Mar 27, 2009, 3:25 pm

It says it's the rate of pay. Yey! :)

Congrats, Espy!!!! I work in a library and LOVE it!!

Way to go on the weight loss, kirby!!! Keep up the good work, even through the soreness. :o)

Thanks for all the well-wishes and concern everybody! The swelling has gone down dramatically and although my leg still hurts whenever I first stand up or touch it, it doesn't hurt constantly anymore which is a great improvement. And the baby has been happily kicking away the past few days, so he is just fine!

GN: It's Saturday and I've been super-productive for it not yet being lunchtime.
GN: It's raining...not normally GN I know, although I don't hate rain, but as we're still under drought conditions, it's good because it's a very steady rain that the land should be able to soak up
BN: Really can't think of any...

You'll never believe this. Snow! I took the boys out, in the rain (no surprise since it's been raining all week) at 6:30 this morning and went back to bed. When I got up at 7:30 I see 2 inches of snow on the ground. It's all melted away now, but it was coming down in those big flakes. You should have seen Finnegan. I think it's his first real snow, since the last time was really ice. He looked like a bulldozer going through it. He would put his mouth on the ground and run. All the while trying to eat as much of it as he could. Then he noticed the big flakes falling from the sky and tried to catch those while jumping at them.

85ejj1955
Edited: Mar 28, 2009, 1:51 pm

Kirby, I would have loved to see that! Finnegan is a cutie, I'm so happy you have him.

Today, for the first time, I saw flowers! Crocuses across the street. It must be true that spring is here, I nearly gave up hope . . .

Good news: I am spending the night at my aunt and uncle's house which puts me an hour closer to the airport and less driving in the snow tomorrow.

Good for me, Bad for you :) I decided to take my computer!

Tough decision: What should I do with it when I am out on the hill? Do I leave it in the hotel room and trust the maids? Do I take it to the front desk? My life and all of you are on this!

#92 -- Some hotels have room safes that are designed to be big enough for a laptop computer -- maybe your hotel room will have one of those.

94ejj1955
Mar 28, 2009, 11:13 pm

Unless it's a very seedy hotel, leave it in the room--you'll notice right away if it's missing and the possibilities for who could have taken it are pretty slim.

You could also just put the do not disturb sign on the door and have the maid skip the room, unless you are really into having someone make your bed and empty the trash. If you just need the fresh towels, call housekeeping and ask for them after you get back.

Or put the laptop in your luggage and close/lock it.

I can't help myself--I'm so much better at solving other people's problems than dealing with my own ;-)

GN: I received a friend request on LT.
BN: It's from someone with whom I share no books, don't recall any discussions in threads, without any note as to why the request was made, and, looking at his profile, he's got hundreds of friends listed. So I'm not feeling so special now. Is that really cynical of me?

I don't think so. I've gotten some friend requests like that, too. I think some people consider this more of a MySpace kind of place with friend requests.

Good news:
We were able to keep the lights out during Earth Hour despite my sister moving in.
Bad/Good news:
Wax from one of the candles I bought got all over the kitchen table, but I was able to get it off and it didn't ruin the table.
Bad news:
The house is a horrible mess from my sister's things being moved in and other stuff being moved out. Also, I had to put some of her stuff in my closet because she filled the other one.

Bad News: The gas gauge on my car doesn't work (it never has since I've had it. I got it from my sister, Michelle, though and she didn't drive it for over a year because the engine broke.) So anyways, I was doing some research to see how much it costs. Evidently the fuel pump and gas gauge are one unit in the tank, making it more expensive to fix. The estimated cost was around $500 from what I looked at.
Good News: To start the car, you have to jiggle the key a little because there is something wrong with the ignition (I forget what my dad called it). But anyways, he said it would only be about $30 to fix.

Ahhhhhh.....Monday

Well let's see how the morning started off.

I got to work at 6:30 this morning intending to do some paperwork on the computer. The computer wouldn't start up. I kept getting an error message. After about 1/2 an hour of trying to fix it I went to another computer, which took about 15 minutes to start up. Once I had logged on, my computer started up. Grrrrr.... That gave me about 10 minutes to do all my paperwork before the kids arrived. Didn't get it all done.

Some of the kids are coming in and they do not have the best of behavior. I understand that it's after Spring Break, but these students are my major behavior problems. I had to send some back outside the classroom to start the day over with.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Maybe it will go better for me.

yes its Jim. He still lurks sometimes but says he feels strange. I wonder why. Wiki is wrong, patients can learn to live with it but they never recover completely according to the doctor. Some recover to the point where it doesn't bother them anymore then the usual aches and pains, but it never goes away. he had been complaining that his hands and feet were numb and tingly and we thought it was neuralogic. He made an appointment to see the doctor but then last sunday while i was at work he got up to make himself something to eat and turned around to get something, unfortunately his feet did not respond and he fell and broke his ankle. My son helped him to the couch and he insisted it was just a sprain so I went to work the next day but when I came home it was still all swollen and starting to turn black and blue. he asked me to take him to the hospital

Be safe K! I've been climbing up and down a ladder for the past 2 days trying to cover things up for testing. I know about the awkward spots. It can be a little scary.

Yay for old friends, food, lawn mowing, Krispy Cremes! :)

Boo for leg pains, ladders and blood pressure issues. :(

GN: I had a Partylite Candle Party (kind of like Tupperware parties but with candles) last week and and it was really fun! And I just got an email that the orders have shipped and should be delivered today!! (They originally said 2-4 weeks for delivery so this is really soon!)

GN: There will be fun candles waiting for me at home!!!

Good News: I finally updated the Coyote Kids website (it's a running program we have here. My parents run it. I'm the website editor). It's finally all up to date and organized and all the links work.

BN: I think I need a tums. We just got done with our testing meeting. They told us every little thing had to be covered up. ABC lines and Number lines were the real shocker since we've never had to cover them before. Then they went through all the legal stuff. I'm sick.

GN: I had a box today full of Earth Day shirts. I was surprised since they weren't supposed to be mailed until April 6th.

BN: I had 150 unread posts here, so i've had to skim quickly.
GN: Doing that makes for some amusing reading. I picked up that Bib is dating a priest, and pico may be getting a shitz-poo. Is that right?

I also noted that when LadyN consumes a bottle of wine, she makes the same typing mistakes that i make. This fact doesn;t surprise me.

Sorry about hubby, polly. Hope he recovers as well as possible.

Yay, Bib! Better you than me though -- writing a grant sounds scary.

I'm sorry about your mom's broken toe and your sister's cyst....that sounds pretty bad. At least it has nothing to do with her seizures. Hope they get better soon!

GN: Weather was formidable today!
BN: The "puppy woman" replied to our email saying the puppy costs $550. When we told her it was too much, she told us she'd lower it $100. We still think it's a lot of money, so we told her the max. amount of money we're willing to pay is $300....now we just wait and see what she says.
GN: We had our last dose of HPV shots yesterday at school and I didn't even feel bad (no fainting, no vomiting!)
GN: We're getting our dance photos taken on Sunday and we get to chose our pose!

>177 picolina: Wait a minute--these are not purebred puppies, right? And she wants $550 for them? That's crazy, quite honestly. You can adopt a pet for a lot less from a pound/shelter. Check out www.petfinder.com.

179foggidawn
Apr 2, 2009, 8:27 pm

We got the cutest puppy in the world (aka Sophie) from our local shelter for $50 -- now, that's not counting what we spent on trips to the vet, or the stuff we bought for her, but still . . . I agree with ejj, that seems like a lot of money for a mixed-breed puppy.

180picolina
Apr 2, 2009, 8:28 pm

No, they're not purebred, they're mixes (shitzu and poodle and pug and poodle) so that's why we told her we'd only pay $300. No more. Our local shelter sells the dogs for $250, so if she doesn't wanna lower the price, we're just gonna say a definite no.

Ugh, I hate using "sell" for animals, because it makes me feel like they're just another useless object, which they are definitely not, but I couldn't find any other synonym except "give," which isn't really good for this situation...

182picolina
Apr 2, 2009, 8:35 pm

Ya! That's it!

183mindylou182
Apr 2, 2009, 9:01 pm

My family got our dog out of the newspaper under the "Absolutely Free Classifieds"
But obviously all the vet trips we've had to take has made her the most expensive free dog in the world. A couple months ago she had a cyst that had to be removed (I have pictures of the surgery!)

Good News: Work was busy.. meaning it went by quickly.
Bad News: I have homework. LAME!
Bad News: I need to get my oil changed. But I keep forgetting.

Hmm. When my aunt was selling her pure breed shelties they were maybe $200-$270, pending on the gender and coloring.

Finnegan is a purebred, and I paid $500 for him. That was because he was 3 months old. They normally go for $800-$1500. Kirby was $600 at 8 weeks old, and is also a purebred. I'm surprised she wants so much for a mixed breed.

Apr 4, 2009, 9:46 pm

Don't worry, Rissa. Missie was born in May and she spent most of the first months in a diaper or simply in a onsie because it's so hot. Try not to worry to much about the clothes. Changing pads are really cheap or a towel will do. Car Seat obviously you need but I know here the hospital will give you one free if you register ahead of time. Honestly, I never bothered with the special wash cloths and stuff, it just adds clutter and the baby won't care. I could go on and on because I'm super cheap-er- frugal. I would worry about the onsies, receiving blankets (that turn into burp cloths eventually) and plain white cloth diapers to use for everything including burp cloths and washrags and so on. Oh and of course diapers. 8)
Plus- garage sale season is coming up and you can get EVERYTHING super cheap at those!

241pollysmith
Apr 4, 2009, 9:57 pm

I think MEM meant She WOULDN"T worry about the onsies...etc...... and she's right, you can get along fine without those things! I know as a new first time mom you want to do everything right but trust me your little one will think you are the most wonderful person in the world even if you dressed him in nothing but burlap

242rissa
Apr 4, 2009, 10:00 pm

there's a reason there isn't much by way of clothes on the list, I plan on socks and a onsie, a hat for if we're out on a cold day or in the evening (we sometimes still get snow in may) and mits to keep her from scratching herself. I'm pretty sure that the hospital here doesn't do car-seats, and I'm not wanting to get one second hand unless it's from someone I know, just because there's no guarantee the car-seat hasn't been in an accident. and garage sale season here doesn't start until mid-june, so that won't work for the stuff I'm going to need right away.

243pollysmith
Edited: Apr 4, 2009, 10:04 pm

244rissa
Apr 4, 2009, 10:14 pm

unfortunately, when Jason is working he makes just over the income cut-off for most programs. though he might get a grant to cover part, or if we're lucky all, of the hospital bill, but that still leaves the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. and there's a couple other bills that need payed off. and I have to start paying off my student loans at some point. It's just all adding up to way more debt than either of us would like.

shep/labs make really good loving pets! they are usually very intelligent ,so be prepared for a lot of "why should I " looks from your pup as you try to train him/her. smiles, kind words and treats for proper behavior and frowns and strict words and no treats for improper behavior. be consistent and you will have a well trained pup!

I forgot about the snot sucker! I admit, it was my favorite baby object.
rissa, I'm embarrassed to say it, but I may still have a diaper pad around here. I might even have some baby towels. I'll check my linen closet. It's due for a cleaning.

Are you planning to do cloth or disposable diapers? If you are doing cloth, I recommend finding a service for the first couple of months. Many allow gifters to put money into your account. I had three months worth of diaper service when my son was born thanks to family and friends.

And it's true about the washcloths. I didn't use them too much. Nail clippers can wait, it's much easier to chew their nails off. I had a bad experience where I cut Catbastet's finger when she was a baby with the baby nail clippers. *blushing*

#231: Sorry about the bills Rissa. I'm sure you guys will be able to solve this monetary situation. And I agree with JP and polly you will get some of the stuff from the baby shower.

#234, 239: Sorry about poor Jim, polly. I'm crossing my fingers so his health improves more and more everyday. I already sent Jim an E-card polly! :D

GN: I went to bed early and slept like a baby.
GN: I'm up really early for a Sunday.

Some breeders will lie about that kind of thing. My aunt and ex-uncle always pretended they didn't deliberately breed their dogs to sell puppies regularly but they did. They lied about where they lived, too, but it was my house they were in so at least the people still had a way to find them.

#250 rissa:
Do you want a changing table? Because we have one. I'll take a picture of it later after work. It was my kid sister's.

>261 Kerian: Sorry, K. I have to admit, I don't see how a cruise could be bad if you can avoid a) food poisoning; b) being boarded by pirates (not including Captain Jack Sparrow); or c) a hurricane.

But that's just me.

BN: Discovery Channel is starting a series with Billy Mays called "Pitchmen."

GN: the Hubby and I found a house we want to buy
BN: It's in a flood zone
GN: we talked to a neighbor who said it's only been bad once in the last 30 years and insurance paid for everything
BN: I was playing with Pepper yesterday, tripped over my pants and fell hard on my hallway floor, now I have 2 giant bruises on my knees that hurt just from my pants touching them
GN: I didn't break anything this time!!!!

266jugglingpaynes
Apr 6, 2009, 12:06 pm

Wait, has it only flooded once in the last 30 years, or has the regular flooding only been bad once in the last 30 years? If it's a regular thing and the people there are just used to it, is that something you want to get used to?

Is this the Cape Cod mom told me about? Or is it a new one from this weekend?

268Mandy2
Apr 6, 2009, 12:40 pm

266: it does minor flooding often. We're not sure if we want to get used to it, that is our current hesitation, that and resale would be hard.

267: yes it's one in the same, It's a fantasic house and if it wasn't in a flood zone we'd already have made an offer, We LOVE this house.

:(

269MEM82
Apr 6, 2009, 12:45 pm

#268 Ack! The house my husband's family had also had minor flooding issues along with most of the houses in that neighborhood. I would honestly not even attempt it. There is not too many things that can cause so many gross things (mold, smells, lawn that is constantly damp and squishy) that water does. Even when they didn't actually flood, there was a 'feeling' of wetness several times of year.

270ejj1955
Apr 6, 2009, 1:08 pm

Have to weigh in on this . . . one suggestion is to check the price of flood insurance before you go any further--I was actually pleasantly surprised by the quote for this on my house, I was expecting it to be a lot more.

Is it the kind of thing that a sump pump in the basement would take care of normally, or is it bad enough that it would get into your living space? Because I cannot express enough how much that sucks for your life. Eleven months in a FEMA trailer, need I say more?

JP - I can sympathise with the teeth issue. When I was a nipper, I had to have several milk teeth removed as the adults all grew through completely, and the little 'uns just weren't shifting. Bleugh! I had double teeth pretty much all the bottom set on the left. Man, I was a pretty child...

ejj: we've looked into the price of insurance and it's no biggie.
It is flooding that a simple subpump could handle unless there is a huge crazy storm. Which again has only happened once in the 30 years the current owners have lived there.

I don't know if this will work but here is the house.

284biblioholic29
Apr 7, 2009, 9:42 am

Well, I gotta say that if a sump pump takes care of most of the problem and the insurance isn't horrible, then it might be a reasonable buy. I assume you've talked to mom about it. I know she's not a Realtor any more, but she was and can likely help you figure it all out. It's a very cute house. Perhaps, if you do put an offer on it, you can at least drive me past it when I'm up there.

Also do you know if they want a short close or not? Just wondering how soon I might get sucked into helping you move again!

Oh it is an adorable house, Mandy! I love the fencing around the yard.

lefty, now you have me worried. I don't want to have to deal with braces again. Even though catbastet has been very positive and upbeat about hers, I'm getting tired of planning monthly visits to the orthodontist.

I know, I'm lazy. What's your point?

Good News: The tooth fairy visited.
Bad News: She forgot the tooth. My youngest theorized that the cat (not Cat) scared her before she could collect it.
Good News: Youngest is happy that she gets to keep the tooth.
Bad News: She lost it outside.
Good News: I found it. Apparently I have keen vision for spotting tiny teeth and the smallest toys.

Mandy, that house is very cute. I can see why you're torn.

I could go on about my teeth, but I would bore myself as well as you guys. Suffice to say I've had teeth pulled where adult teeth have still not grown through, as well as where they grew too soon. Hate my smile, so tend not to. If I could wind back the clock I would do ANYTHING to have beautiful teeth. But we weren't to know. At least if it was through neglect, I could say "Oh well, serves me right", but actually it's genuinely through no fault of my own. Stoopid teeth.

My thoughts go out to all those who are sick, injured, having relationship issues, etc. It's ironic that when you're having a bad day and talk to someone who's having just as bad of a day, you fell a bit better.

BN: I have a lot of homework. I have a 12 page paper and 2 5 page papers to write. One of the 5 page papers is due tomorrow, although I finished it and just need to edit it tonight. The other 5 pager and the 12 pager are due on the 28, so I have some time to work on them. I also have a PowerPoint presentation that corresponds with the 5 pager due tomorrow. On top of all that, I'm stressing out about my photojournalism project. I have to submit a proposal with the people/events/ ideas that we're going to shoot for the final project. However, if the professor doesn't like our proposal, we can't shoot and we fail the class.
GN: My ER book is in the mail and I should have it shortly to begin reading, which might help take my mind off of everything.
BN: I'm not feeling 100%.

BN: Dishwasher needs a new motor. The seal around it cracked and water got in it. Annoying, but it's far more annoying not to have a dishwasher after having had one for several weeks now. How quickly I get spoiled!

GN: I stayed home from school today and not because I was sick! Since the cable guys and dishwasher guys were coming I had to be here in the morning but I took the whole day off so I could catch up on dresses. It feels so good not to be sacrificing sleep time to get dresses done!

BN: I counted yesterday -- I have 28 dresses in my house right now. They aren't all due at once, but they are all waiting to be worked on. I try not to have more than 6 due on any given day and even that is stretching myself thin what with school. Prom season is exhausting!

Good news: I caught someone with a majorly humongous bag stealing today when her bag split and a large candle fell and rolled on the floor.

Bad news: If anything else was in her bag she got away with it. This has been my first time catching a thief that I haven't felt good about it.

Unrelated good news: I was invited to join two co-workers shopping on Friday. No one ever invites me to shop with them so I'm excited about it.

Thanks everyone for being excited for me! I have to keep calming myself a bit, since there's still the voice test to do before I actually get any work. He may not like me, but I think I have enough range to be useful.... fingers crossed.

BN: I did not sleep well last night as I was having nightmares about spiders, because...

S(cary) News: ON Saturday I go to London Zoo for them to try and cure me of my phobia. SATURDAY!! That's come around very quickly. I feel sick.

Cat, aren't you old enough to know not to play with scissors? :P~~

A bonnet sounds like a good plan, JP!

Mindy, I'm glad training is going well! :) Serving sounds like much more fun than hostessing. (Hmm, that really is a word I guess ... spell check doesn't have a problem with it anyway.)

LadyN, good luck with the critters. And the voice stuff. How could anyone not like you? :)

K, I think you should move to the Midwest. Though I don't shop often, you can come whenever I do!

Adding to the things I never thought I would say:

If you're going to cut your hair, could you at least not try to hide the hair between the tub and the sink?

It's going to be a long day.

GN: I had to work through a couple lunches this week, so I get to leave an hour early today.
GN: I'm also off tomorrow!
JN: I'm spending the holiday weekend at my parents', who live less than half an hour from me, but I need to be there Sat. and Sun., so I figured it'd save gas and energy to just stay there. It's like a mini-vacation.

337jugglingpaynes
Apr 9, 2009, 1:21 pm

Yes, that one inch space between the tub and the sink certainly counts as hard to clean. But I give her credit for trying to hide the evidence.

She likes the bonnet. It's one of catbastet's old Easter hats. Of course, without hair it looks sort of like her head is too small for it.

And I should admit I lost it with her. This was the latest in a string of things, and I've tried to be easy on her to keep her from lying, but I'm at my wit's end. I asked her (rather loudly) what's next? Smoking? Tattoos? Drugs?

338catbastet

Well, you don't have to worry about tattoos with her. She's afraid of needles, remember?

Perhaps I should splain. When Sierra was 5 she disappeared before dinner. We looked everywhere, neighbors became involved, and after 15 minutes of searching we called the police. That was when catbastet found her in our car. She had drawn a null sign, two percent symbols and an x on the seat. She looked like this:

I once had a kindergartener in my day care class who came home from school with cut bangs. very short. Since I didn't see her in the mornings I excepted her explanation that Mommy did it. well daddy picked her up that day so it was the next day when I was called out to the directors desk wihere a furious looking mommy and a guilty looking little girl were waiting. Mom says "Nina told me you cut her bangs! I want to know why?" Blankly I replied "No of course I didn't cut her bangs! She told me you did!" Whereupon Nina started to cry. I said "Nina, who cut your bangs, really?" "It was _____ .my friend at school!" we were in the play house and wanted to play beauty shop!" (sob sob) I said" Why did you tell me it was Mommy and tell Mommy it was me? "Be.. be.... because your grown-ups who wouldn't get in trouble. I'm sooooorrrryyyyy!"

the time I cut my hair I was about 4 and my older sister (then about 6) and I were fighting about something and she had a pair of scissors and threatened to cut my hair. I really didn't want her to do that so I said no she wouldn't, cause I would do it myself. so I took the scissors from her and cut a hunk of my hair.

353kirbyowns
Apr 9, 2009, 10:22 pm

polly-I had one of those a year or two ago. I keep my kids' scissors in a scissor rack so no one is tempted to cut things that they're not supposed to. One day I was sick and had a sub. Now, I leave very specific instructions for a sub (lesson plans, behavior plans, and such). She decided to put a student (one of my behavior problems) in time out (which is not in my behavior plans). Guess where she put him. Yep. In a chair near the scissor rack. The next day I kept finding this thin brown hair all over the place. I noticed that this child's hair didn't look quite right, but you never know with parents these days. I spoke to a neighbor teacher after school, and she mentioned that he had been in time out. I asked him about it and he denied doing anything. So I called dad. Dad said that the child did not go to school with that hair cut, but he wasn't letting him get his hair cut for a few days as a punishment. The next day he walked in with a very closely shaved hair cut. I asked him about it and he said that he had cut his hair because he was bored.

Apr 9, 2009, 10:45 pm

I remember one time when I was young (I don't remember the exact age... maybe 8 or 9?) I decided my bangs were too long. So I cut them myself. They were uneven, but they were still long enough that my mom could correct them later.

BN: I twisted my knee a couple of weeks ago, and it hurts on and off when I walk. Sometimes it's worse than other times. It will pop at the most unfortunate moment, which almost makes me misstep. Sometimes it will be on the verge of popping for several minutes, which hurts even more than when it does pop. Have you ever had a joint that felt like it needed to pop, but you couldn't get it too? That's what it's like, except 10x worse.

Or if only she were a boy so I could shave her head.

That's a good thought though kirby. Boredom. I asked her what she was thinking and she told me she wasn't. In her defense, she's always been fascinated with scissors and has been able to use regular scissors since she was 3. My other two had trouble with scissors until they were six.

I'm totally amazed at what I've achieved today. First I was amazed that I managed to even look at a bird eating Tarantula (look, I can even type that word now!!!). Secondly, I was amazed that I touched the leg of a house spider. Third I was amaze that I let a HUGE house spider walk around on my hands. And last, I was amazed that I HELD A TARANTULA!!! I would have a hard time believing that myself, but I have photos to prove it!!!!!

Thanks for all the good luck vibes. You all helped more than you know, especially during the hypnosis part - We were told to picture ourselves in a safe, comfortable place. *Everyone wish very, very hard for a little girl in this class that will be wonderful and sweet and like my daughter.* Two nice, friendly girls would probably be too much to hope for. LOL
The one thing Missie has not liked about being at home was the lack of companionship.
GN: Summer will be here soon and hopefully we'll be able to meet some new friends at the parks around here. 8)

ah freinds! Are the days long gone when all you had to do as a child was look for a yard with toys or kids playing and then join in? I used to roam from yard to yard with our gang> Each person's yard had something unigue about it, A cool swingset, a bush that hid a cool place to hideout, a big rock to climb on or an open space to play kickball, a large climbable tree, a covered porch for playing barbies on rainy days! All these I remember fondly

Good/Bad news:

Grrr, it's been one of those days!!!

BN: You know how we were supposed to be getting the female pup today cuz yesterday she was getting spayed? Well turns out we were late by 1/2 an hour. 1/2 AN HOUR!!!! The worst part is that today the people at the shelter tell us there's a way to pre-adopt an animal. Oh, well thanks for telling us, after all, it's only been 3 times we've been in one weekend!!!!!!!! Ugh, we were sooo annoyed.
GN: We pre-adopted one of the male pups that supposed to arrive on Wednesday, so it's all good.

GN: Missie met several girls that seemed to like her so YAAAY! Thanks for all the good thoughts everyone was sending 8) Even Cole made a friend...well the way little boys make friends. Cole showed him his toy and the other little boy showed Cole his toy. They traded the toys and then ignored each other for the rest of the time.

BN: Little boy's father came over to watch. He kept trying to talk to me but I couldn't really hear him so I amused myself by trying not to meet the father's eyes so he wouldn't speak to me.

GN:Luckily he wasn't much of a talker. He did come in handy by getting on the floor with the boys and showing each of them how to work the other's toy. 8) I'm getting to the point where if I'm on the floor, I'm not a graceful butterfly getting back up. LOL

Forgot to add my news.

BN: Mom went home early from work yesterday not feeling well. She felt dizzy and like her legs wouldn't support her. Dad took her to the doctor who told her it was probably vertigo. He only checked her blood pressure, which was a bit low, gave her a perscription, and sent her on her way. I haven't researched vertigo yet, but I will a little later today.

434biblioholic29
Edited: Apr 15, 2009, 9:25 am

Did the prescription involve Cary Grant in any way? Kim Novak? A bell tower?

(I'll stick to the Hitchcock references and let compski take the Arrested Development references...)

435jugglingpaynes

Apr 15, 2009, 11:05 am

Ahhh.... What would I do without you guys.

I don't understand why he told her "It's probably vertigo", and didn't check anything but her blood pressure. Duh! We knew she was dizzy, but why is she dizzy? It irritates me when you spend that much money on a doctor to tell you what you already know.

440rissa
Apr 15, 2009, 12:18 pm

if someone is dizzy, the only things to check are blood pressure, hydration, and blood sugar. hydration you check visually, and blood sugar usually just asks if you've been eating unless it's a recurring problem. so the doc really did do all they could, ruling out all causes that don't include the inner ear.

441Renald128
Apr 15, 2009, 12:26 pm

#439: Kirby I suffered from that and my doctor prescribed me some pills and I was fine. My doctor told me it was probably because of some flu or cold that wasn't completely cured. But don't worry about it I'm sure your mom will be fine.

442MEM82
Apr 15, 2009, 12:43 pm

If you get clove oil, heat it gently and use a cotton swab dipped in it to put against your tooth. Make a wash with the cinnamon, (mix it with warm water or tea )and swish it around your mouth. You can swallow it just don't put sugar in it as that will aggravate the tooth

Good luck on your minor medical procedure!

#484 Not very long actually, Missy. I'll admit... I could've done it before work... but whats the fun in that??

Good News: It was beautiful outside today.
Bad News: After 5pm, I didn't go outside because I had work.
Good News: Work went well, especially for a Friday night.
Good News: The night I made $120, there was a fundraiser. A percentage of the amount of tips made would be donated to the YMCA (so not my own personal tips, but work would pay it). And I made the most tips, therefore raising the most money =D

BN: the hubby and I are NOT going to buy that house
GN: We found another house
GN: A friend just bought a house a block away
GN: I already have a friend that lives a block away in another direction
BN: It needs a lot of work
GN: that means we can afford it!

that's the front and all you want to see for now, trust me. The people living there now just don't seem to care about the house so they've let it go. But the neighborhood is great and if we give it the TLC it needs then we're basically garanteed to make a profit. It's a neighborhood we never thought we'd be able to afford.

Congrats Mandy! I think you will be much happier out of a flood zone!
Our house also needed a lot of work (still does--it never ends) but when we saw it, we knew it was the one. The right house just asks you to live in it. :o)

Its a lovely looking house and I love all the greenery around. I think there must be something very satisfying to be able to do up a house and 'rehabilitate' it.

I love it Mandy! Funny how they don't take care of the house, but they make sure the car is covered!

It's beautiful Mandy! Sometimes being able to redo a house the right way (because in my house, there are so many things wrong because the idiot before us wasn't so good at remodeling) and the way you want it done is wonderful.

Ooh Mandy, it's lovely! And the fact that it needs work just means it'll be even more "yours" when it's done. HURRAH!!

Congrats, Mandy! I didn't like the way I had to remodel my house (because of the flood), but I still really like looking at the floors and paint colors I picked out. It's nicer than it was before the flood and it's my taste (which is quite different from the previous owner's).

And it always amazes me just how much difference a new coat of paint makes in a room.
