All three of the above are the same book.
It's been ten or fifteen years since I've read the book and it's driving me crazy.
I'm pretty certain it was set in Marrakesh, part of it in the present, and part having travelled into the past.
The book was rather like a scrapbook with faux handwriting for the text in places, and all kinds of things arranged on the pages, along with a fold-out map. Most of the colors were in the sepia/antiqued range as well.
The other thing I remember about the book was that the dimensions were rather unusual, not the standard trade paperback or mass market in size.

Was it Griffin and Sabine or Sabine's Notebook perhaps? The books were like a traveler's journal or scrapbook and had all sorts of nifty little things, like letters you could take out of the envelope and read, and so forth.

Nope. There were no letters like that in the book.

It sounds a lot like The Tattooed Map, but I can't remember whether there's time travel in that.

I think that might be it! Now to see if I can get my hands on it again.
It is the one. Amazon had photos of some of the pages. Abebooks has a great price on it too.
Thanks so much for figuring this out.
