I have looked and haven't found a way to use the Tab key when posting a message. Am I missing something or is this not possible?
In my 999 threads I want to show 7/9 or 0/9 status for a category but hitting the space bar or tab key doesn't move the cursor away from what has already been written on that line. IS the a way to do this? I have resorted to ................. but even this doesn't work very well.
Can anyone help?

I just removed the spaces between the ampersands and the nbsps

You can also make inset type if you want to have a whole passage inset (e.g., here) by using

#3 I don't understand. Are you saying to insert & nbsp repeatedly until I get where I want?

In HTML, is used in place of a non-breaking space. Just add a few of them in a row to simulate a tab. OR, go with #4's idea, which is much better. <blockquote> is HTML's out-of-the-box answer for that problem, while is just a work-around.

Neither of those suggestions does what I want to do.

A regular tab would do it, but tabs don't work.

Any other ideas?

1. New books in an old Series .............................8/9 ......BONUS POINTS = 8
Let's see if this works:

I'm trying to think of a solution. . . you could always move your table to your LT Wiki page (e.g., here's mine) where you can create a table.

Oh! I have it! As long as the President's name isn't too long, you can just make the numbers centered on the page. (Or, you can have align="right" if you want them all the way over).
President's name Number
President's name
Edited to say - nevermind - that makes a line-break

Okay, now I do have a solution.
President's Name Number

e.g., width=100

e.g., width=300

I just uploaded a blank picture to flickr and by changing the width, you can change the spacing and keep the numbers on the same line. And it won't change each time you edit it.

I did what I should have done AGES ago and looked it up.

Yeah, <pre>something</pre> adds a newline. D'oh.
To get the best tabs, insert the entire thing in <pre>'s, and put the 's in the text without wrapping them with anything.
I edited my response to not include trying <pre>	</pre>.

Let me try something...
It's ugly as sin HTML (you can't use newlines in a PRE tag...).
It looks like this:
- George Washington, 1789-1797 12
- John Adams, 1797-1801 11
- Thomas Jefferson, 1801-1809 6
- James Madison, 1809-1817 2
- James Monroe, 1817-1825 2
- John Quincy Adams, 1825-1829 4
- Andrew Jackson, 1829-1837 2
- Martin Van Buren, 1837-1841 0

True, it does look prettier if you hand-number. I was trying to be lazy by using the OL/LI tags, but they add too much whitespace.
cyderry, You're probably best off doing this then:
Or
<pre>#. President Name, Start-Finish	X
#. President Name, Start-Finish	Y</pre>

Let me get this straight....
I put the pre before Washington's #1, then after his dates I put tab code and the number that he has. Do I have to remove the line breaks between each president? At the end of the 43 after Obama's number I close the pre.
Is that right? Does the tab code (tab) notation disappear from view but remain when I go to edit? Can I have more than one tab in a line?
Whew... this is more complicated than I thought it would be.

To make matters simple:
Put the PRE before 1. George Washington.
Put the /PRE after the last part of Obama's line.
Put as many tab codes as necessary where appropriate (some may require more than one, but if you edit the message, while the codes have been translated to tab characters, each subsequent edit will retain them). You can have multiple tabs on a single line.
And put each prez on his own line.

I was wondering if two tab entities (	) in a row resolving into a single space was a bug.

I don't know if it worked in June 2009 and not now, but #28 and #29 do not appear to be in column-like format to me. They look just like if you'd never tried to put any tabs in.
