I've been paying more attention to my Recommendations lately, but this only began today.

I go to Automated Recommendations, and ask for the list by date, so they're showing the most recent ones first. I see a book I know nothing about, and hit "why". It says "loading..." but then the results never come up. There's only a link to "close why".

I'm using FF3 on Vista.

Does this happen for all books, or only some?

I just checked my five "new" recommendations; two had blank "Recommendations based on:" sections, and three had books listed in that section.

Good question. I went back to my automatic Recommendations and asked for them by date, and looked at the top 10.

The very newest one popped in today, for a book by John Michael Greer. Just today I added a book by him, and have no other books by him. It wouldn't give me a "why". The new book in my catalog is in Your Library and in To Read, both of which I have turned on for Recommendations.

There is no "why" given for A Handbook of Japanese Usage, but I do have many books cataloged relating to the Japanese language. All of the existing books are in Your Library, plus some also in To Read or Inherited (one of my custom collections).

The others of the most recent 10 Recommendations all gave "why", all being logical according to the other books in my catalog.

This started to happen when Tim fixed the recommendations bug that was discussed here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/66480 . Tim said he was going to look into it but I haven't heard any more about it.

I am able getting this sporadically. It's annoying. :)

Bump.

I'm getting this, and have been getting this for a good deal of the time since Collections came out (can't say exactly how long, between release excitement and so on).

The 'why?' link coming up empty is in itself nothing new (and I've had some pretty funny recs come up on no obvious basis), but the pre-Collections version was pretty stable, or at least predictable. But now it seems to be neither.

I'm currently on IE7 and XP, but I think* I've noticed it on another computer running IE8.

I seem to have pulled a bump-by-new-thread on this issue.
