i was looking at librarything's sci fi and fantasy groups and was about to check for horror, but couldn't decide in which genre the dark tower series would fit the most naturally.

thoughts?

Most libraries and bookshops seem to classify everything King writes as 'horror' though I completely disagree with them. To me, he defies classification.

#2 - I totally agree.

#1 - If I had to classify the DT sereis I'd have to call it a combo. It's sci-fi, fantasy, one book is a western, action, and suspense. I'd be really hard-pressed to call it horror.

When I ran my Waldenbooks, it was classified as Horror.

*shrug* That's where people expect it.

It's definitely not a horror series. As some of you stated, The Dark Tower is a combination of fantasy and sci-fi

King used to be a horror writer. Now he's more of a character-driven suspense/thriller writer (with ocassional forays back into horror). Pet Semetary was his last true horror novel IMO.

Really hard to put King in any kind of box, I use sci-fi/fantasy.
