IIRC it compares the rest of your library to other people's libraries. If people with whom you share a lot of uncommon books own this book, then it will predict you will like it. If a LOT of people with shared libraries own it, it will rate the certainty high. And vice Versa. If people with hwom you sghare a lot of books don't own it it will predict you won't like it.
TIM maintains that ownership is a useful proxy for 'like' - he has a bit of a point, but I'm not sure the correlation is anywhere near as high as he thinks it is.
