looking for book I read , written in early 1980's, no author obviously, or title. fiction, comtemporary, about life in a socialized society. this took place in the future, say 2050. all national country boundries are gone. A family copes with the stress of govermental oversite in thier daily, personal and business lives. A Mother and Father a Grandfather and Grandmother all professionals and a grandson. can you help?
The title may have "Winter" in it. that is the best I can provide.

Can you remember any more specific details of plot? There are a *lot* of books in this genre that are all too similar to sift.

I'm going out on a limb here and suggest The giver by Lois Lowry.

It doesn't sound like The Giver -- the emphasis there by no means was on government oversight.
Searching around, I see a few YA dystopias with "Winter" -- doesn't sound like any of them are quite right, but maybe they will ring a bell:
* Winter's End by Jean-Claude Mourlevat -- this one is apparently part of a series. Dystopian / authoritarian government; kids escaping to get back to family. Or something like that.
* Winter of Magic's Return by Pamela Service - also part of a series; dystopian, but Arthurian, so seems unlikely.
There's a YA dystopia reading challenge; maybe someone on one of those threads would know or be reading this title. See http://www.bartsbookshelf.co.uk/ya-dystopian-reading-challenge/ .
And of course, you should look through the tagmash "YA, dystopia" ....
Good luck. I'd like to know the title if you figure it out.
