Right now I'm taking a break from trying to read my health insurance packet that came today.
What a headache!
What a headache!
2rissa
right now I just finished catching up on group questions on elfster, and am checking LT really quick before trying to get rid of a headach.
3Kerian
I'm not having a headache. However, there is a lot of cleaning to be done. I'm signing off to clean and then get ready for work, hoping to stop off at Michael's on the way. *insert evil laugh here*
4jugglingpaynes
I'm about to step outside and rake the last of the leaves. I hope.
5LadyN
I'm attempting to do everything at once, as per usual. This currently involves catching up here, attempting to start a thread filling you all in on the trip, uploading pictures (some of the picture files are corrupt somehow, but my new flatmate is helping me recover all the others), tidying my room (my version of unpacking has so far involved tipping everything from my backpack onto my bed/the floor and then rummaging through the souvenirs/gifts and leaving all their wrappers everywhere too), doing laundry, and trying to get my head around the fact that it is NOT 3.40 tomorrow morning. So.....yeah....
7rissa
feeding Adara. after that I'm going to keep working on washing dishes. laundry and packing to go visit family for the holidays also needs to happen.
8pollysmith
I wish I could go visit family. I'd love to get out of here for awhile
11LadyN
...and now I'm flagging... oh, not flagging posts, you understand. That would be mean. No, just flagging....
13Kerian
I'm cataloging Inkdeath and Harry Potter Should Have Died. Also seeing it's kind of late to research earthquakes (I know, I should know a lot already, right?) for a paper, so hurrah for bed! I'm tired.
16pollysmith
Mr A, Booksloth, thank you! I really needed that smile this morning. :)
17lefty33
K, have you read Harry Potter Should Have Died? Just curious if it was one of the extra HP books I should get.
18Espeon200
I am getting caught up with all the LT posts I've missed in an effort to put off doing the dishes just a bit longer. Also I'm typing up this post, but I figured the question was more of a guideline, so to speak.
19Kerian
#17 lefty:
No. I just bought these two books last night. Harry Potter Should Have Died looks really interesting, though. I read their previous book, Mugglenet.com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7? If it's anything like that one, it should be really good. They had some really interesting ideas. I think I remember a lot of us reading that one before DH was published. :)
I'm checking things online (bank, work site, sneaking on LT) before getting ready for work.

checking LT real quick so that when I go AFK for a week there won't be too much to read on the four or five threads I'm caught up on.

My daughter was supposed to take a train to visit her *grimace with shiver* boyfriend but she missed her train. Friday night she used her *impossible to say no to* face and asked if I could drive her (4.5 hrs). Couldn't say no, so we drove up Saturday morning. I checked into a horrible hotel, had a horrible Chinese dinner, slept (you guessed it) horribly, and was very glad to get home yesterday afternoon.

Procrastinating on beginning the pre-holiday house cleaning. First up, the kitchen table, which is so covered by various piles of paper that you can't really see the top anymore...

suge! Good to hear from you! And why did you leave without meeting up with me? :o(
27Kerian
Hi, suge!
Right now I'm waving an arm at Aloft to see if she's sleeping with one eye open or if she's watching me type. Creepy.

I'm trying to remember the login details of the HE flickr account...(hint hint...PM please!) I'm also wondering if I've been home too long to write a "what I've been up to in Asia" thread. I don't want to bore anyone....
30LadyN
Ok, if you're sure! I'll work on reporting in the most efficient way I can, and then type it up. :-)

I'm watching my husband play a Mario game on his Wii. Hilarious.
suge! I saw sharks today! We went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. When you come to Cali for a visit, you must go there. They have lots of cool sharks, including a couple of hammerheads. They are so weird! And the seahorses exhibit rawks.
Plus I got my new Kindle today. Must get back to it!

Getting ready to shut down my computer and leave for the weekend. I'll probably check in once or twice while I'm away, depending on the unreliable internet collection there. Happy Thanksgiving to all USA HEers, and the rest of you have a great weekend!

I'm catching up a little here while waiting for everyone to settle down for the night. We have four extra people and three extra dogs over. Everyone thinks I'm alseep but I say they're crazy. The noise!

Right now I'm digesting some Thanksgiving dinner and thinking if I ever eat again it will probably be too soon.

#41 yes, but I've never played a Mario game so there would be no point in my playing with him. He's a ninja master Mario player.
Right now I am watching James Bond and relaxing after driving back from Mom's today. Had a lovely Tgiving, but I'm glad to be home.
Hubby is now playing GoldenEye video game while we watch the movie. Goofball!

I'm drinking SmartWater and staring at the goldfish in my water bottle? This is really weird! It's the first time I've had this brand of water. It says "Spring water is for swimming. SmartWater is for drinking." My question is then, why is there a goldfish swimming in my water bottle? ;)
61PollyAnnaHP
I just glanced out my dining room window, and noticed the neighbor's light up reindeer looks an awful lot like Harry's Patronis!

I´m doing a bit of poaching again. and chewing gum.
I´ve been gimping around since yesterday, because I slipped off my car and fell tibula first on a rock.. whaaaaaaa. It was honestly hilarious, but also extremely painful and I don´t even have a cool bruise to show for it all. I don´t bruise. Ever.
I´ll try to post pics later from my really, really cool white water and rock climbing adventure. you have to swim through these really cool rock formations and caverns and rivers and climb waterfall and jump off cliffs and slide down these natural rock slides. It´s sad because I survived all that, and only hurt myself getting back in the Jeep. sigh. trust me to go clumsy at the end of the day.
Well, off I limp.

A passing grade. Heehee.
Aside from this, soon I'm going to be downloading some photos from a 'nature walk' (shooting photos from the car) at our wild life refuge. They're for my geography extra credit assignment, though I do already have an 'A.'

The last time I went to a used bookstore, I told my mother about some near bib. Guess where she wants to move?
Right now I'm sneaking on a school computer (ick) while my sister's taking a final. I just sold a textbook back to the college and returned my rented textbook.

Just got home from work and I'm in bed (it's 11.30pm), with hot buttered toast, and my curtains open just a sliver so in the morning I can sit up, see how deep the snow is, and judge whether I'll be able to make it to work or not. :-)
Oh, and I'm trying to put together a movie montage of my time at the wildlife centre, if only I could work out how the movie-making software works...

216LadyN
#215 - I'm sorry, Veta. I know how difficult it is - my grandma was the same. She didn't know who I was the last time I saw her, as I'd changed my hair colour. You could see she didn't want to admit it though. In the end we sat down with old photographs and pointed out me, and other members of our family, using names frequently until it sunk in a bit with her.
217pollysmith
Jim's Grandma is that way, right now. People she sees frequently she can remember, and she remembers Jim since he was her favorite grandkid. Me she's known for twelve years, and everytime I go in to visit she smiles and talks to me but as soon as I leave the room for a minute she asks who I am. " and They say, "Thats Jimmy's wife!" She always says in surprise, "Jimmy got married?" I don't mind I know she can't help it and I know she is really loves me for making her Jimmy happy.
218jugglingpaynes
Veta, when I was a teenager, my family dealt with my great-grandmother's Alzheimer's. My mother tried to help out by taking in my great-grandmother to give my grandma a break. Nanny never recognized me, even as her great-granddaughter. She thought I was the maid or a waitress. It can be so stressful and frustrating for everyone, but try to remember that this is the disease, not the person. {{{hugs}}}

222/223 - There are elements of commedia in panto, however, many of pantos routes are in the medieval mystery plays. Traditions of staging, such as stage left being the realm of the Good and stage right being the realm of the Bad echo the positions of heaven and hell in the mystery plays. Of course, panto is a result of theatrical evolution, so does have many influences. Most obviously the permission (or not) for women to appear legitimately on stage, hence the "Principal Boy" role and of course the Dame. I could go on, but it would be dull. :-)
231biblioholic29
Actually, stage right is for Goodies and stage left is for Baddies. I'm the good fairy this year and I'm on from the right. I've always been a baddie in the past, so it's weird to be coming in from that side. :)
(I double checked this on Wikipedia, just in case we had somehow "Americanized" it, but we're doing it right. Dad, you should check out the wiki entry on pantomime, there's a small section on American companies doing it. I'm going to attempt to add us.)

274ChelseaB-ley
Sitting in shock because my friend just told me her hamster had more babies last night! The other babies are 18 days old, not weaned yet and I don't think they've even been picked up yet. :O!!! I read online a week ago that dwarf hamsters can get pregnant hours after giving birth and I thought about telling my friend to be warned. They didn't take out the male until I practically forced them to and it was already at least 8 hours later. But then I thought "No, that couldn't happen"
Wondering what we're going to do with all the hamsters. There are 8 babies from the last litter and I was planning on taking one or maybe two. Then we would have to find homes for the others. I think only 3 people are on the list...I sure hope there was only 5 babies this time...

I'm not sure pet stores will take them since there are a lot of hamsters. But we could always try. Or put posters around school about free hamsters. Some people will want them. We will definitely ask all the people in band and I'm sure the hamsters will get some homes from that.

Took over an hour, and I'm pretty crossed-eyed and dizzy from all the theological terminology used, but I used a bunch of red ink all over the 50 or so pages...I love the man, and he's better at this preaching thing than I would have thought at one time , but his gifts and talents DO NOT include writing. I just texted him, and explained to him that a really wonderful thing had been invented: it's called "the comma", and he might consider using it occasionally. He also has a tendency to meander in his writings, and so I cleaned up a lot of extra verbage.
While I am proofreading and editing his extremely important papers, he is in Arizona at the Fiesta Bowl. Good to know his priorities are in order--the papers are due on Jan. 15. lol

K, if you can get some plain white gloves, you can put something like vaseline or olive oil on your hands before bedtime and that might help. I don't have much trouble with allergies, so I always put some scented lotion on my hands before bedtime to fight the winter dry hands problem--added bonus of having the nice scent to help lull me to sleep.
ETA--if you have heat drying out the air in your house, it really helps a lot to run a humidifier during the winter. Mine puts at least a gallon of moisture into the air daily.

#406 Using a large pot, sweat some shallots and a clove of crushed garlic in butter -- do not allow to brown but saute until fragrant. Add a litre of white wine and bring to a boil. Cover and allow to steam until cooked.
