It's probably a bad idea to start another challenge, but at least this one looks easier than some of the others :)

I'll have to rummage through my stacks of books to pick out the twelve I'll be reading. Wish me luck!

And here's what I came up with:

First Choices:

1. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
2. Moby Dick by Herman Melville
3. Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
4. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
5. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
6. Pere Goriot by Honore de Balzac
7. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
8. The Belgariad by David Eddings
***For this one, I'm going to count all five books of the series as one book. They're relatively small, so I think I can do it :)
***Depending on how much I enjoy the first five books, I might add the second five and the two prequels. All the books are fairly small so I'm really not too worried about his one.
9. The Harry Potter series
***I'm halfway through the third book so for this one, I'm just going to count whatever I have left to read of the HP series (likely books four through seven)
10. The Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson
***The same rule applies here - I'm going to try and read the entire series.
11. His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
***Again, I'm going to read all three books.
12. East of Eden by John Steinback

Looking above, I realize this is kind of ambitious, especially since I'm also trying to do the 1010 challenge. Because of this, my alternatives are going to be easier, quicker books to read and the series won't be lumped together as one entry.

1. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
2. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
3. The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
4. The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
5. The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
6. The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
7. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin
8. The Telling by Ursula K. LeGuin
9. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
10. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
11. Dune by Frank Herbert
12. The Princess Bride by William Goldman

Wish me lucks folks! I'm really going to need it O.o

Good luck! You definitely have some ambitious reading planned. I was afraid to list hefty classics here, because I have enough trouble finishing the challenge as is. I'm hoping to read The Three Musketeers next year as well, though. It would also be nice to finish with Mistborn and His Dark Materials, since I've started both trilogies and not finished them. I'll definitely be checking back here to see how your reading goes!

The hefty classics were actually listed because one of my categories for the 1010 challenge is large classics. I figured I would need some overlap to get through this year :P

Oh, absolutely. That was the mistake I made last time: I chose books for my TBR challenge that didn't actually fit into my 999 categories, so there was no way I could get through both challenges. But I think I've learned my lesson now; I just went through and changed a couple of next year's TBR books, so hopefully it will work out better in the end.

And I still think you're brave for choosing all these big classics, regardless of the reason :P

I'm a big supporter of the overlap system :-) I've got overlaps between my 1010, Paranormal 1010 and here. I like being able to cross the books off.

You are going to be busy. I'm eager to see what you think of a lot of these books because I have them as TBR's or on wishlists.

You must read To Kill a Mockingbird. I read it last year and loved it. I can't believe that I waited all my life to read it.

I agree, overlaps are the next big thing for 2010!
