We couldn't pull it together in time, and we've decided that we'll do an evening event instead of a conference. We're thinking pizza, conversation, good company, and probably beer.

The question now is when: Friday night? Saturday night? Sunday night?

And where? A bar or restaurant in South Boston (near the Convention Center) that we can rent a room?

Anyone have ideas?

Friday or Saturday night is better for me, but Sunday night is still doable.

Ditto. Friday night I'll definitely be down that way for the exhibits and opening stuff, and Saturday I could do if necessary. Sunday I'm less likely to be down in that neighborhood ...

Saturday night would be best for me, with Sunday as my second choice, and I can't do Friday at all. Sorry I can't help at all with a location, but anything casual (and not loud?) within walking distance of the Convention Center would be fine.

If you are exhibiting at ALA again this year, you should contact ALA directly about getting some of their meeting space. It is rarely used in the evening, and because they have contracted for it at virtually every hotel around the convention center, the rental fee is VERY inexpensive - as a for profit entity, the cost is $200.

You are really late in requesting space, but they can probably accommodate - they just wouldn't be able to list you in any of the programs. The down side is that if you do one of the conference rooms at the hotel - and you want food - you are at the mercy of the hotel's catering costs. We are hosting an event at one of the hotels on Saturday night, and although the rental fee is only $200, a veggie spread is $16 per person plus 21% service fees and taxes. You can do a cash bar (at this particular location), but you have to rent the bartender AND a cashier at $100 an hour each.

The Westin is attached to the convention center, so for anyone also attending ALA, it would be very convenient.

Friday night I will be event-hopping all evening -- I might be able to hit a LT get-together, but only for a few minutes. Saturday and Sunday are a good bit more reasonable. My vote would be for Saturday evening.

I'll try to make it whenever it happens.
