I am looking for a book I read a while ago. The book is about a group of afew prisoners being driven on Earth that suddenly find themselves in a jungle. They discover they are on a planet where water activates latent spores into life forms. They eventually find an old city and discover vampire like beings. In essence they used a form of energy transfer beam to send people from place to place. When first started accidents happened and these people had been one, taken from Earth 20,000 years earlier.
Help with title PLEASE.. Thanks

If we can believe Wikipedia, DAW books was founded in 1971, so if you're sure you read the book in the 60's, it wouldn't be DAW. I guess DAW could have reprinted it.

#3: We can believe Wikipedia in this case anyway. The first DAW books were published in Spring 1972.
I remember reading an early DAW press release claiming that its publishing program was restricted to first paperback editions: mostly, that meant paperback originals; but they also did paperback reprints of books previously published in hardcover, and some English translations of books originally published in foreign languages. So yeah, they might've done an edition of this book if it were printed in hardcover in the late '60s.
I own about 90% of the first couple of hundred DAW books. I didn't recognize this plot, and I've checked the cover copy on those books I havent read, and none seems to match this. Still, it might be one I'm missing so here's a complete list of the DAW books you can browse to see if anything rings a bell:

Bump to see if anyone else has any ideas. Still looking. Thanks
My date of the book may be off and it may not be a DAW book. I originally found it as a free ebook, but don't remember anything else about it.
Thanks
