Any other Aussie solvers out there who grapple with DA's fiendish crosswords in the Sydney Morning Herald every Friday? It's a great satisfaction when one does solve them (I get about 1 in 4) and they're very cleverly set, often with a theme that one must first determine as the other clues are dependent on it.
DA's cryptic crosswords are diabolical. I'm lucky to get one, maybe two clues out on a good day. The only time I did fairly well was when the theme was grammar. I find the Saturday SMH cryptic crosswords tend to be a lot easier and more closely match my puzzle solving ability.
