This happens on most fields. When you double click the field to edit an existing value, a space is added at the end of each entry. If you save it without removing the spaces, the common knowledge entries don't link up with the non-space versions.
Compare:

After fixing the add-a-space bug, could you have something go through the data and remove all trailing spaces?

Thanks. I'll take a look at it.

Additional data: It doesn't seem to be doing it if I repeatedly edit the field without leaving the page. I.e. If I go to one of the authors in the first list, edit the place of residence to remove the space, and save the field, then edit the field, the space at the end remains gone. If I close the page and then open it again, the space is back.

For works, it doesn't seem to happen to the series field, but does happen for (at least)
- canonical title
- date
- event (the trailing spaces on some events mean that they are getting identified as different events)
(This got mentioned in passing also on a previous thread, which was mostly in relation to the new date hyperlinks so the spurious spacing remarks may have been overlooked..)
The spurious extra spaces are also appended to common knowledge fields for authors as well as those for works.

Still happening. Check out Places of Residence on http://www.librarything.com/author/clarkbenjaminl (look at the links before you edit, then edit)

Can someone see if this is still happening?

Good. Thanks.

I take it back. It's not adding the space immediately anymore, but if you refresh the page and double-click, the space gets added.

What browser are you using and how can you tell?

I'm using FF 3.6.10 and I can tell because when I refresh the page and double-click again, the space is there.
When I noticed it, was because I clicked on a birthdate link and it had the space included (as well as including the bracketed year). It also showed up in Places of Residence, Canonical Title, and Important Events, but not in Characters or Important Places - which matches the behavior shown in this thread in messages 4 and 5.
On the other hand, the space thing seems to not mess up the search anymore, except for the birth/death dates, and that seems to be as much as problem as the bracketed year as it is an added space.
