I was just playing the Coverguess Game and came across this cover:

I know I've seen this image before, so I glanced through my library and found it was from this cover:

I know I've seen this image in other places as well. Is there any story behind this?
It kind of reminds me of the magdalene picture as seen on Requiem by Graham Joyce and numerous other covers.

It's pretty common to find books with similar covers. A lot of times they use stock photographs -- one may be tinted differently or cropped differently, but they are from the same source.
This blog shows similar covers quite frequently. Sometimes she finds 4 books with nearly identical covers!
