A girl is on at a slumber party with a group of friends at one of their ski cottages (it may have been for a birthday). they do the ouija board and there are spirits present. in the end, the girl finds out that her friend is actually an old friend of hers who was burnt in a fire that the girl started a long time ago.

Could it be Slumber Party, The Midnight Club, or Remember Me, all by Christopher Pike? It sounds like one of his stories, but I'm not sure of the details.

Yes, it sounds like a Christopher Pike to me as well - especially given the time-frame. He wrote a lot of books - most of which were a lot of fun. His two trilogies of The Last Vampire has recently been reprinted - the first volume as Thirst if your quest leads you on a Pike spree.
