I've google everything I can think of to try to find it, even posted on Yahoo Answers. I read this book ages ago and I don't remember the title or author or even much about it. It's a MG-YA novel, probably published in the late 90s, about a girl who keeps having memory lapses. I think it's because she's being haunted by a ghost. All I remember is she finds her shoes covered in mud in mornings and doesn't remember going out. I think the cover was red, but you know how that can change.
Thanks in advance for any help :)

Mary Downing Hahn wrote a lot of ghost stories; it might be one of hers.

R. L. Stine wrote a book called The Sleepwalker in 1994. Here's the Amazon description:
"A summer job as companion to weird old Mrs. Cottler (who lives on Fear Street) becomes upsetting to Mayra, and she begins to sleepwalk at night after having nightmares. The job really becomes frightening when Mayra's best friend is mistaken for her and is nearly killed in an automobile accident."

Infiniteletters: Thanks, I checked, but it's not one.
ninjapenguin: No, sorry, it's not that one. Thanks for answering, though :)

It might be a Lois Duncan book...

murderedmymuse: I went through them, but it wasn't one. On the bright side, I now want to read about 20 Lois Duncan books :P

Could it be a short story? There is one by Bruce Coville called The Thing in Auntie Alma's Pond that fits. I found it in the book Oddest of All though it was published in other collections. I just read it yesterday.

6: I particularly recommend The Third Eye for that purpose. Not for the original post though.

Laina, it's worth looking through the Scholastic Point Horror series. There's about 140 titles, written between 1987 to early 2000s:

Also, do you remember any more details (?), as I put YA, girl, memory lapse, and ghost through google - and nothing much came up.
What you're describing is familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it. Small chance, maybe, the book is a Christopher Pike, or from R.L. Stine's 'Fear Street' series, or Diane Hoh's 'Nightmare Hall' series.

Mud: Sorry, no. I remember it being a novel.
infiniteletters: Thanks for the recommend!!! :)
murderedmymuse: I'm looking through them, but I don't think it was a Point Horror. I do know that it wasn't a Pike, Stine, or Hoh. I really wish I could remember more, it's driving me ever so slightly batty. I think there's a scene where the girl is babysitting and she falls asleep and gets in trouble, but I could be thinking of another book entirely. Thanks for trying, though!!

It's reminding me a little of Richie Tankersley Cusick's The Unseen series. . . but I think those are Point Horror books.

katelisim: I don't think that's it, but I think I'll get the from the library if I can incase I'm wrong.
Something I remember, though, I think, is that the ghost was posessing the girl and that's why she was having memory lapses.

hmmm, the first only has a little possession. I think the 2nd one is where it kicks up a bit in that department. The only other book I've read that would anywhere resemble your description is The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray by Chris Wooding. . .

Maybe Ghost Cat by Beverly Butler; that has some sleepwalking.

katelisim: I could be entirely wrong, but I *think* the ghost haunting the girl was the same age as her when she died so she wasn't possessing her in a malificent way, you know? Agh, I wish I'd been keeping track of what I read back then.
infiniteletters: Sorry, no. I'm pretty sure it was aimed at an older auidence and newer.

I wasn't going to suggest it, because I don't think it's what you are looking for, but I'll throw it out there anyway:

It helps to bump a previous post (add a comment) in case it has previously made suggestions that were ruled out. :)
