I'm thinking of a word that rhymes with "Eyjafjallajokull"

I wanted to rhyme on Eyjafjallajokull
But there’s no game in just scuttle and shuttle.
We’ll look instead at the traveler’s day,
And find a rhyme for the word delay.

I think "circle" might be pretty close to rhyming with "Eyjafjallajökull".

I thought you made up that Eyjafjalla word.
It sounded far-fetched. It sounded absurb.
But its a glacier-volcano. If you visit, I hope
When you climb up, you'll rely on a rope.

So much delay, the planes can't land.
Amanda Palmer's stuck in Iceland.
With global warming, our position,
Should be that nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition?

I’ll give SCR credit for two:
But outré and belay won’t do.
Justjim needs to confess
That auto-da-fé wasn’t his best guess.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé

//#2 > I’m not sure, Darsu. A pronunciation guide I found online had a “t” pronounced as part of a terminal “ll” in a syllable.//

You carry on,
I'll pass the baton.

Not accepting, without rancor,
In this race, you’re the anchor.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay

I'm banging the gavel
I'm saying -34.485505,144.837799
Why don't we travel
The road to -20.281794,148.739405

eta: oops, both were the same! Correct now.

When in Iceland, enjoy the fresh fish.
Ask for a boneless cut, if you wish.

Justjim, Route 75 is the way
To get from Bacchus Marsh to Hay.
Why you don’t go
Is more than I can say.

Boned fish, when you kill it,
Some call that a fillet,
SugarCreekRanch will say,
The proper way is fillet.
Crambo says no matter who she
Is, that’s wrong, try sushi.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay, way, Hay, say, fillet

Sweet is the scent,
of an armoire nosegay
As musty smells
It chases away.

Sachet’s wrong, but not alone,
Crambo throws in the homophone.
And for services not billable,
He also says look for a tri-syllable.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay, way, Hay, say, fillet, sachet, sashay

An official bulletin about the floor show?

No time for rhyme,
to the point I'll get.
Is it the word
for a bouncing bullet?

15Larxol
Apr 16, 2010, 1:41 pm

Not sure of your guess, JJ.
Is it cabaret communiqué?
If so,
No, no.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay, way, Hay, say, fillet, sachet, sashay, cabaret, communiqué

Don’t shoot! To be realistic,
We’re looking for nothing ballistic.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay, way, Hay, say, fillet, sachet, sashay, cabaret, communiqué, ricochet

Might it be a the kind of dog that a previously fashionable First Lady would have had before she was married?

No Bouvier des Flandres breed
Will end the puzzle, guaranteed.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay, way, Hay, say, fillet, sachet, sashay, cabaret, communiqué, ricochet, Bouvier

Time for a hint: three syllables. Things are always being left in this.

//On pronunciation of the volcano we're not rhyming with, from the NY Times City Room blog:

Here’s the lowdown from a native speaker at the Icelandic consulate, who would give only her first name, spelling unknown but pronounced Becca. Take a deep breath.

EY-ya-fyat-lah-YOH-kuht

The “EY” rhymes with the word “bay.” The “k” is softer than an English “k,” almost like a hard “g.” And the “t” at the end kind of sticks for a second and pulls away with a hint of a glottal “l.”

EY-ya-fyat-lah-YOH-kuht

Say it soft and it’s almost like, “Hey, ya fergot La Yogurt.”//

I don't want to win,
No time to start a new game,
So why do I keep guessing?
Larxol's to blame!

Is it a piece of decorative fabric, often attached to cooking aprons and other types of feminine clothing?

No appliqué or patch
Gives an answer that’s a match.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay, way, Hay, say, fillet, sachet, sashay, cabaret, communiqué, ricochet, Bouvier, appliqué

brain isnt really functioning right now
so i will just this
is it a word used in reply when a persons rebuttal is just as scathing as the initial insult or in acknowledgement of a hit in fencing?

23Larxol

Bonny, get some coffee in your system,
There are hints above, but you must have missed ’em.
And put away your saber and épée,
Our word is not fencing’s touché.
And what’s up with all the accents aigus?
For Crambo’s word, simple English will do.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay, way, Hay, say, fillet, sachet, sashay, cabaret, communiqué, ricochet, Bouvier, appliqué, touché

Might this person be my betrothed?

25Larxol

You may worship in Hymen’s bower,
But fiancée doesn’t win Crambo’s flower.

Not outré, belay, auto-da-fé, relay, way, Hay, say, fillet, sachet, sashay, cabaret, communiqué, ricochet, Bouvier, appliqué, touché, fiancée

but is it the state of this alphabet?

And guessed our word: disarray.
