I'm thinking of a word that rhymes with 'catch'

Can you guess it?

"Can you guess it?" (1)

The short answer is "no". The long "answer" is : Something that helps keep a door closed and at leased minimally locked ?

A grumpy sod?

The roof of a quaint little cottage?

Might it be the fashion crime that occurs when one wears a plaid shirt with a striped tie?

I want to play, the cat doesn't, ergo I get one of these (often more than one!)

Make sure you lock the ladder's latch
Before you climb up to repair the thatch.
For if you fall, you'll get quite a scratch
And the unsightly bandages will mismatch.

3 - Still thinking

Not: latch, thatch, mismatch, scratch

Slang word for a 3-syllable adverb meaning "of course" ?

Why do we all think this has to be a 1-syllable word?

I'm wondering if it might be a Teutonic sounding alternative name for a morning coffee party.

You're all invited to the Crambo coffee klatch, natch.

Not: latch, thatch, mismatch, scratch, klatch, klatsch, natch

I know what it is but I'm not going to post it here! I'll send it to you with all due haste.

//Accepted wisdom now appears to be that this is one word with two (slight) variant spellings.//

The two parts come separately; you have to put them together.

And of course, once you do that you can take off those removable pieces.

You can dispatch your despatch,
Then attach and detach,
But you've not guessed my word
There must be a catch.

Not: latch, thatch, mismatch, scratch, klatch, klatsch, natch, dispatch, despatch, attach, detach

Since I'm from British Columbia, this thread makes me think of certain ceremonies of the Haida, the Tsimshian and the Tlingit

A bird?

18SugarCreekRanch
Apr 19, 2010, 3:18 pm

It's not a potlatch
Nor any kind of feast.
It's not a bird.
Perhaps it's a beast.

Not: latch, thatch, mismatch, scratch, klatch, klatsch, natch, dispatch, despatch, attach, detach, potlatch, nuthatch

I wasn't thinking of this as a good rhyme, but is it another name for Bigfoot?

20justjim
Apr 19, 2010, 5:19 pm

Is it frumious and to be shunned?

21jpyvr
Apr 19, 2010, 5:33 pm

Might it be the memorable accessory of the Hathaway Man?

22SugarCreekRanch

It's not an eyepatch that I seek,
It's a creature -- quite a beast!
Though a Bigfoot may be frumious
'Sasquatch' as a rhyme is dubious.
It's the bandersnatch that we shun
And now this Crambo game is done!

Not: latch, thatch, mismatch, scratch, klatch, klatsch, natch, dispatch, despatch, attach, detach, potlatch, nuthatch, Sasquatch, eyepatch

Is: bandersnatch

Obviously not the right word, but my #3 was crosspatch.
