I am going to the Houston Public Library book sale this weekend and will look for books that you request. It is a HUGE sale.

The books are sorted by genre, not title or author, so please tell me the genre and, if nonfiction, the general subject matter in addition to the title. I don't usually look at the sci-fi/fantasy/horror sections but will entertain requests for all other genres.

If you post a really long list, I won't be able to keep the titles in my head well enough to find any of them, so it's better to just give me 5 or so titles each (or at least tell me which ones you want most). I will only buy books in decent condition but probably can't remember detailed condition/edition requests.

carlym,
Thanks for this amazing offer. I have a few requestes;

1. Non-Fiction ~ James Patterson's The Murder of King Tut: The Plot to Kill the Child King

2. Non-Fiction ~ Anything related to Wicca and Witchcraft, especially devoted encyclopeidas. I'm writing a fiction book and need some more research material. I have the first edition of Idiots Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft and I may have a book Teen Witch: Wicca for a New Generation, but anything else may be helpful. I'm especially looking for books that have a Wicca/Christianity comparison as that is a considered element in my book.

Again thanks for the offer I hope you enjoy your self at the event.

Missy, I'll look for those.

I should have said that I will ship internationally--pretty much anything to USA/Canada/Mexico and smaller books elsewhere. If I get a lot of international requests as a result of this, I may space out the mailings.

I'm also headed to a booksale tomorrow and will keep an eye on this thread. Unfortunately the booksale I'm going to won't be nearly as big and glorious as carlym's! But maybe I'll find some gems.

If you could look for anything by P.G. Wodehouse, I'd like to mooch it. His stuff would probably be in the humor/literature sections.

Georgette Heyer (usually shelved with the romances) is another author I'm always looking for. Even if I already have certain titles, I like to mooch them for my friends.

I'm also very interested in C.S. Lewis' nonfiction (probably shelved with the religious/philosophical nonfiction).

Thank you for looking! Hope you also find some goodies for yourself :)

I'd love anything dealing with the saints or Catholicism, both for adults and for children. Missals, biographies, etc - it's all good. And I'm NOT picky on condition as long as they aren't moldy - especially for vintage books, which I do LOVE. Anything by TAN press or NEUMANN Press is going to be on my wishlist.

My other lookout for is Biggest Loser titles - but I doubt you would find them at the sale.

If I had money I'd drive up to go, but alas I'm broke. But I do have close to 90 points so if you wanted to just fill up a big box for me from that genre I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands.

Thanks so much for the offer! You are very generous.
I´m looking for some old Regency romance all written by Joan Smith:

* Damsel in Distress
* Country Flirt
* Love's Way
* The Notorious Lord Havergal
* True Lady

If you find any of these books, I´ll find an angel as I live in Argentina.
Thank you!!

Author: Marie Tieche
Title: Champagne and Polar Bears: Romance in the Arctic

Story of their life in the Arctic. Starting my wishlist from the bottom (Oldest) up, and this one is near the bottom.

Also any small cookbooks (Keeping your postage costs in mind!) on cooking off the shelf or from food storage.
Thank you!!! :)

What a nice thing to do.

I'd like any good book (non-fiction) on the History of Art - preferably with nice images, but not absolutely necessary.

I have a USA address you can post to if that's easier.

As always, any lesbian fiction or nonfiction. Also, vegan books/cookbooks and zombie books.

Thank you for offering to do this for us :)

I've had a heck of a time finding Pope Joan by Donna Cross and would be thrilled if you happened to come across a copy!

It would be considered historical fiction, I think.

Thanks again,
Michelle

Apr 20, 2010, 3:51 pm

Danneeness, can you be a bit more specific? I'm guessing that if you like lesbian fiction, you already have a lot of titles, so I don't want to get something you already have. Also, they will probably not have a separate section for this, so I won't be able to know without reading descriptions (and there will be thousands and thousands of books). A few titles or authors would be helpful.

And by zombie books, what do you mean? Not a genre I have explored, so I'm clueless.

Hey carlym,
I have a somewhat easy one for you might you visit the travel section. I am looking for helpful updated travel books on Italy, (not Europe). Covering any of the usual Rome, Naples, Ancona, Florence, Venice & Milan. Just a couple if you see anything that catches your eye as helpful & you will be swamped.

I am Bons from Atlanta & Bo on BMooch.
(thanks)

18carlym
Apr 20, 2010, 5:23 pm

Bons, like 2009 or 2010 versions of travel guides? Will put it on my list.

19Danneeness
Apr 20, 2010, 5:35 pm

14 > I really don't have very many, so I can guarantee to mooch whatever you find (if I already have it, which is unlikely, I can just re-list them). I know it will be difficult to keep everyone's suggestions in mind, so just anything with "lesbian", "vegan", or "zombie" in the title, really (I have odd taste...).

Anything published by Bella Books or Bold Stroke Books would be great, but I guess that's not too easy to spot right away. Anything by Radclyffe, Karin Kallmaker, Michelle Tea, or Francine Saint Marie would be awesome.

Thank you so much for doing this! :)

20slatterly
Edited: Apr 20, 2010, 5:57 pm

And if you find anything with both "lesbian" and "zombie" in the title, get a second copy for me, please. Not that any such thing probably exists, but a boy can hope... :P

If you could look out for themed speculative fiction anthologies, too, I'd appreciate it. Any of the ones edited by Ellen Datlow and (I think) Terry Windling would be awesome.

Edit: Ergh. Just read the OP more closely and noticed the part about the genre sections. So feel free to ignore this, basically, if you're not gonna be checking there anyway. Reading comprehension fail.

21carlym
Apr 20, 2010, 6:09 pm

Hahahaha. Will be sure to look for lesbian zombie novels. Slatterly, I will put those names on my list in case I make it to sci-fi/fantasy. I don't really know what "themed speculative fiction" is, though, so it's doubtful that I will be able to locate any.

Danneeness, maybe I will be able to find you some vegan books, at least!

22Bcteagirl
Apr 20, 2010, 7:06 pm

hahahahahahaha

I am betting vegan zombie books would be even harder to come by ;)

23slatterly
Apr 20, 2010, 7:12 pm

21 - I meant speculative fiction anthologies that follow a theme. Ellen Datlow's done several, some that are all retold fairy tales, some that are all about a particular type of monster, and so on. Basically, any kind of anthology that's not just "year's best" or whatever. Thank you!

Thanks for the offer, carlym!

I'm on the lookout for Patricia C. Wrede's The Magician's Ward; I just read the first book in the series, then found out the second one was out of print! It's young adult fantasy, but is (I think) more likely to be shelved with the former than with the latter.

25Quaisior
Apr 21, 2010, 3:08 pm

I usually look mostly for science fiction and fantasy, but since you say you don't get to that section, I'll just post my non-fiction wishes.
I'm looking to expand my collection of books about the Titanic
Ghosts of the Abyss by Donald Lynch
Titanic: An Illustrated History by Donald Lynch
Ken Marschall's Art of Titanic
The Night Lives On by Walter Lord
and any Robert D. Ballard books about the Titanic except The Discovery of the Titanic (which I've just mooched)

Fantasy section - if you decide to check it out...

Children of the Blood (The Sundered series)
Lady of Mercy (The Sundered series)

I'd be glad to mooch if you happened to come across the following. I don't have specific titles, but a general request:

Non-fiction - Education: Anything on literacy/reading/language arts at the high school level. I don't know if they'd have them, but magazines for teachers would also be appreciated (Education Today, Modern English Teacher, etc.).

Thank you!

OK, so I just got back from the preview day. It was nuts! So many books! For all of you who asked for fiction, I couldn't find any of your requested books. They are so disorganized that it's hard to find specific things.

All of the ones I got are reserved for the requestor on BookMooch.

BONS, I got the 2008 Let's Go Italy. If this is too old for you, someone else has wishlisted it. The other Italy books were either very specifically tailored or older. (Lots of newer USA and Britain travel books, though.)

Wisewoman, I found Suprised by Joy by C.S. Lewis. (Also Mere Christianity, but I've had that one on my wishlist and so am keeping it.) I didn't see any Wodehouse, but I realized I had previously bought a duplicate of Ukridge, so I have reserved that one for you, too. I saw one Georgette Heyer, but someone had spilled something on it, and it was kind of gross.

Dakotamidnight, I found several for you--Saint Peter by Michael Grant, Stories of Padre Pio (Tan Press), and Teresa of Avila by Cathleen Medwick.

Phlox, I saw many good art books but no general histories of art. Peppermintkiwi, the education section was pretty small. Nothing good. Quaisior, I looked over the science section pretty thorougly but didn't see any Titanic books. Bcteagirl and Danneeness, there were many, many cookbooks, but I didn't see any on the topics requested. Lots of vegetarian stuff but no vegan stuff. Danneeness, none of the sections I looked at had lesbian non-fiction--I might not have been looking in the right place.

I might go back on Sunday for bag day, where you get all the books you can put in a grocery bag for $10. If I do, I'll keep an eye out for the ones I didn't find today.

Oh, and cdnbookworm, they had tons of books on the Salem witch trials for some reason, but I didn't see any about Wicca or practicing witchcraft, which I thought you were aiming for.

31carlym
Apr 23, 2010, 9:29 pm

Despite having LT mobile on my phone so I can check what I own, I bought Mere Christianity and just realized that I already own it. So, wisewoman, I have it reserved for you. I know it's his most famous nonfiction, so you may already have it. If you don't want it, that's fine; I think it will go quickly.

Apr 23, 2010, 9:33 pm

Carlym,
Thanks for looking. I happened to find Mere Christianity at my favorite consignment shop and had just messaged wisewoman about it so I think she'll get a copy as well. You were right I am aiming for more the history of the actual craft. But if you go back on Sunday I wouldn't mind one or two books (two at the most) about the Salem witch tirals as I'm always intrested in the history and it may give me something to bridge into, either as a plot point studying in a class in the book or as a side plot...like having a modern version of the witch trials. And being Canadian I've never studied the witch trials in class. Again thanks for looking.

Thanks so much! Mooched all those reserved for me and another from your inventory. The Padre Pio one I've been looking for!

If you go back, I'd love any freezer or once a month cooking type books, as well as locally put together cookbooks {like from churches, etc}. And of course, any others about Catholicism, both in children's and adults.

Thanks for mooching, Dakota! I hope you like them. It might be easier to find the cookbooks on Sunday after some of them have been cleared out. There were so many that it was hard to even see them. There were definitely some of the local ones, though.

Hello Ma'am. Gee, I wish I'd noticed this sooner. ;) If you can find Mere Christianity, Reflections on the Psalms, Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer, or The World's Last Night and Other Essays, by CS Lewis, Heaven by Randy Alcorn, or some Wodehouse, please get them and I will promptly mooch. :) Thanks Ma'am. Hi MereChristian, I think we wound up with an extra copy of Mere Christianity. I'll wait to hear back from wisewoman, but I assume that she doesn't need a copy from me and from cdnbookworm, so there should be one left over. If I go back on Sunday, I'll look for the others.

Dakotamidnight, I got two more for you: Lives of the Popes and St. Patrick of Ireland. Both are wishlisted by others, so if you don't want them for some reason, that's fine.

Cdnbookworm, for you I found Book of Shadows by Migene Gonzalez-Wippler, which is supposed to be a "compendium of all the practices, beliefs, rituals, and spells of Witchcraft." The touchstone is not connecting to the right book.
