In my catalogue, http://www.librarything.com/catalog/EveleenM, I have 16 works by Wexford Festival Opera, eg. http://www.librarything.com/work/9586953/book/56751237. However, when I click on the author link, http://www.librarything.com/author/wexfordfestivalopera, it is listed as having no works. The works used to appear normally, but disappeared when I combined the author with http://www.librarything.com/author/wexfordfestival. I separated them again, but the works haven't reappeared on the author page.

That was a couple of days ago, and the works are still missing from the author page.

The work, http://www.librarything.com/work/9586953, doesn't have an author listed.
...
I separated the work from itself on the Editions page, and the new work http://www.librarything.com/work/9981517 has the author, and appears on the author's page.

The cover seems to have been left behind, you can wait a few days and see if it catches up (it's still on your book page, which is now http://www.librarything.com/work/9981517/book/56751237).

Did you add the book without an author, then add the author afterwards? I suspect that the work page got created without the author, then when you edited your book the work page didn't get updated.

As far as I remember, I did create the work pages with no author. I didn't realise that combining an author could have that sort of side effect - I'll watch for it in future. Off I go to seaprate all the others...

It had nothing to do with combining the author... when the book was originally added without an author, the work page was created without an author. When you edited the book to add the author, the book was combined with the existing authorless work. Your book had an author after you edited it, but the work didn't, and so the work didn't appear on the author's page. I separated your book from the authorless work (on the work's editions page), which then caused a new work to be created for your book.

I'm still a bit puzzled by this: all 16 works did appear on the author page, for a month or two. Are you saying that my books appeared on the author page when I looked at it, but not when anyone else did?

I don't know what would have changed or why.

I only looked at that one work you listed in the first message. If you go to the work's page, http://www.librarything.com/work/9586953, there was and still is no author listed, so that work didn't and still doesn't appear on any author's page -- I don't think it would matter who was looking at it.

Your book, when it appeared on that work's editions page, did show an author.

After I separated your book from the work with no author, it had its own work, with an author, and appeared on the author's page.

I don't think any of that would have been any different for anyone else.

Okay, I think I see what happened. When I edited the books to add the author, the works (as you said) remained with no author, but were temporarily brought over to the new author page. After a period of time, the works should have reverted to the work page (blank) author, but in this case inertia kept them on the new author page. Probably any editing change at all would have shaken them loose from the author page - it's just pure chance that the first edit I made was to combine the author, which shook all 16 works loose in one go, and confused me no end.

Some days I'm definitely slow on the uptake! Thanks for your help.
