I'm up to page 80 of The Probable Future and have to admit it's not yet grabbed me as completely as some Hoffman's other novels have. I am finding the mother-daughter relationships interesting though.

One thing that isn't helping is that my edition (small Vintage 2004 paperback) has the teeniest print I've ever seen in a book. I would need a magnifying glass if it was any smaller!

Spent an hour reading this, this morning and am liking it a lot more now. The characters now feel real to me and as usual with Hoffman, the magical elements reflect the psychological reality of the characters really well.

After about half way through, this book really started to get under my skin. It is really rather beautiful! When I've finished, I will start a new thread with a spoiler warning so I can talk about it without worrying!

I read this in May, so I'm in for the discussion.

I'm still hoping to get to this and The Story Sisters though I'm feeling overcommitted this month - so don't be surprised if I have to revive the threads in the autumn.

I read this awhile ago but I would still like to join in the discussion.

I'm about twenty pages in and ready to be hooked.
