Not sure what's going on but, I've been logged off 3 times in the last half hour. Anyone else having these problems? To the best of my knowledge this computer hasn't had any changes that would have affected cookies on my end.

System keeps throwing me out...
Usually I check LT several times a day -- I'm logged on for most of the time (e.g. check the pages 3 times) and then on the fourth I'm suddenly logged off when I try to open the Talk-page.

Today was the worst so far. I opened LT (Finnish site), Home page was ok, but when I clicked on Talk -> logged off. I logged in -> Home page -> Talk -> logged off. Tried this the third time -> Home page -> tried the Profile -> logged off.....

Then I opened the www.librarything.com -site -> worked just fine.

What's going on? Is there something I should fix with my internet-settings or is there a problem on the (Finnish) site??

May be related to the current database reworking:

I don't think so. I've asked John to look at this but, frankly, I think it's not on our plate at all. Perhaps John will have some ideas.

I was just forcibly logged out after some Talk weirdness.

I've had a couple of reports of people being logged out, but I've been unable to reproduce the problem. I'm looking into it whenever it's reported, but I haven't been able to determine any sort of pattern, or any solid indication that the problem is on our end.

If you have any more information you can give me - especially a series of steps that will reproduce the problem - I'd appreciate it.

Changing to "Needs discussion"

It happened to me when the databases were out of sync, I think. Talk posts were not registering as "read" and changing to different Your World modes would result in an empty space where Talk should have been - not a blank page, the left sidebar was still there. Upon refresh, all posts showed as unread and I noticed I had been logged out.

The specific browser and version might be helpful.

edit: Some of the antivirus and protection programs monitor browser cookies. May want to also mention what one(s) you;re using and the level of protection you're using as well.

I got logged out after that long downtime you had last week. But it's been happening seemingly randomly about once every 1 to 3 weeks for a long time.

FF on XP. No antiviral or antispam programs.

10> ayiyi. As a home computer repair person - PLEASE get something for AV and a firewall! Actually, you may have some, if you get Windows Updates - there's a Microsoft thingy called Security Essentials that's very poor but better than nothing. Or Avast! or Avira - both very good and free (Avira you pay with one popup that you have to close a day). Windows firewall if nothing else, or free ZoneAlarm if you want one that works better. None of these do much slowdown (nothing like McAfee or Norton), all are free, all work pretty well and make you and everyone you communicate with safer...

11> Antivirus is a scam for people who don't know how to use computers wisely, and don't know to put a hardware firewall between your network and the rest of the world. Looking at jjwilson61's bio (and judging from his past posts), I think he knows what he's doing.

Yeah, happening again :(

I have a link which takes me straight to my Home page. That always works (shows me logged in) -- however, when I actually try to DO anything (go to Talk, Profile etc.), the system throws me out.

This morning I got so far as to add a new book and start editing it. When I opened a new page to my browser (IE 8) to check wording on some tags I was gonna use -> logged out.

And now I CANNOT GET IN!! Every time I log in and try to get somewhere (talk, add books etc.) -> logged out.

On the Finnish LT-site, that is. Thus far, using the www.librarything. -site has worked quite nicely.

Even the Finnish site has more or less work for some time; well, there was this one day when I couldn't get in either but then I was too busy to post about it. Most days the system tries to log me out but after a couple of re-tries it gets back to normal. However, now I've tried about a dozen times and it really doesn't seem normal anymore...

This is hugely, immensely annoying, the more so as I really don't know if the problem is at my end (meaning I could do something about this if I just knew what...).

Browser IE8, firewall & antivirus by F-Secure.

12> Thanks, but I'm no expert in PC security. But my wife who knows a lot more about it than I do assures me that we have a firewall in our router so we don't need that other stuff.

Just to let you know: yesterday everything worked fine.

Today, the system again doesn't keep me logged in. No matter how many times I re-log in, the first click away from Home-page logs me out. And again, this affects only the Finnish site, not the www.lt.-site.

There isn't anything I do differently: every day I basically just click on my IE-favourites link for LT. It starts to look as if every other day there's no problem with the staying-logged-in, and every other day there is...

Closing this particular bug report since I think there are newer iterations of it that have been taken care of. If there are continued issues, please report them.
