Fantasy novel about a kid kind of mix between harry potter and lightning theif, written in the last

So i have been looking for this book for a couple of days. It's about a kid who finds a tapestry in a museum in this roped off section. Something happens (i can't remember) and he comes out and its not there anymore. A couple days and a person comes and "tests" him. He passes and goes to this school. I can't remember much more but two parts. One part is when he meets some kid and then goes to this magic class. There trying to make flames go higher in the fireplace or something. So his friend comes in and makes it huge and he gets put in advanced classes. The other part i remember is that There is this elevator and it goes to this training area. He puts it on the highest level and beats it in record time. He was blind folded and (i think he ended up fighting his teachers) thats what happened. Thank you for trying to help.
