Starting at the stores on http://www.librarything.com/bookservices.php I landed on http://citylights.booksense.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp?s=statictext&topic=abo... and I get the impression integration should be franchising

No, they're different.
"Franchising" means that a company licenses someone else to use its trademark and business methods in exchange for a regular payment and/or percentage of the proceeds. You see this a lot in fast food restaurants (like McDonald's). Booksense, on the other hand, is an organization of independent booksellers who have joined together to promote their common interest (in, among other things, staving off the predations of Borders, which does franchise).
I think that "integration" as used here has something to do with the search mechanism, but I wouldn't swear to that.
