The main story is that a woman, possibly a scientist, accidently gets left behind on this forest planet and after being discovered by the local inhabitants, is biologically transformed by them in order to allow her to survive in their alien atmosphere.
She then lives with these people in the treetops for a number of months/years until she is eventually picked up by her crew.
My hazy memory of this sci-fi novel tells me that it may have been written by a female author, and had a very eye-catching leafy cover (the reason I picked it up in the first place!).
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm on the verge of tearing out my hair!
