I read a book years ago - possibly an old school reader - and there was a story in there about a clambake on the beach. The children dug a hole, and made a fire and used seaweed to line the hole or cover the clams or something. I cannot find the book or know the title or anything. I thought it was a part of the Alice and Jerry series, but I'm not sure.

This really brings back memories! I'm sure I read this clambake story in grade school.
Is it Friendly Village by Mabel O'Donnell? It's in the Alice and Jerry Basic Readers series and it contains a story called "The Clambake."

I suspect it's a popular theme but there is a clambake like this in Louise Fitzhugh's The Long Secret.

In the book "Friendly Village" Does anyone know what they are referring to when they said they moved "truck" from the barn into the hole? I wondered if it may have been a slang term they used in the day to refer to manure. Don't know.

The noun 'truck' has secondary, non-automotive definitions:

Sounds like they could be referring to one of them. If you quote the full sentence at us, we might be able to figure out more particulars. (I haven't read the book.)
