Rerun van Pelt, the younger brother of Lucy and Linus gets to take the lead in this adaptation of a television special, and he is on the hunt for a pet dog. At first he just tries spending more time visiting Snoopy, but he soon comes up with a surprising idea to get his own dog.
The special was cobbled together from dialogue from Charles M. Schulz's original strips, and now this book tries to winnow the story down to its essential points, resulting in an unsatisfying hodgepodge of scenes that don't necessarily hang together . . . unless of course the moral of the story is that we don't need pets if we have Jesus Christ in our hearts?
My daughter liked this book when she was four, but two decades later she is annoyed by it.
