This is a very entertaining historical fiction work intended for young adults. It tells a mostly fictional story of an episode from the life of John A. McDonald, and ties it in with the legend of the Lake on the Mountain, in Ontario. I thought this was very interesting and a great view of early 1800's life in what was then Upper Canada. It also accurately portrays the political situation between the US and Canada at the time, though perhaps a bit exaggerated. This would be an excellent book for any young person with an interest in 1800's history or Canadian history. ( )
