In book 2 of the Scanguard Vampires series, Amaury is cursed to feel the emotions of others, and it causes him extreme pain. The only way to find a little temporary peace is to have sex with whoever is willing, so he’s gained the reputation of a sexoholic among his friends.
Nina blames her brother’s death on the vampires he worked for. She’s a tough woman and ties Amaury up in knots, quite literally. To him, she’s different from anyone he’s ever met. He’s calm and at peace in her presence, no sex needed, but they certainly do have a lot of it.
I loved the way the H/h bickered with one another. Their trust and self-esteem issues often interfered with their budding relationship, but they fit well together as both friends and as show more lovers once they finally let down their guard. I sympathized with and liked both the characters.
The sex scenes are super hot but long. The story could use an edit to minimize the telling. Sometimes more than one person talked in the same paragraph, which led to confusion. There were so many people and so much going on in the final battle scene that I couldn’t visualize it.
Overall, I like this story and plan to read more in the series.

A Good and Steamy Vampire Tale

Starting from the very first chapter, Amaury's Hellion is a delectably steamy vampire novel by Tina Folsom. We met bad boy, Amaury in Book 1, but this time around he's fallen head over heels for Nina, who was a bit reminiscent of Lisbeth Salander, the kick-ass heroine in Steig Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I liked Amaury's Hellion just a bit less than Book 1, which I found more inventive and humourous and rated at 3.5 Stars. Both Amaury and Nina veered towards being a little bit two-dimensional. And for a tough street kid, Nina is sometimes not that bright (refer to the blood-bonding) and her reactions are a bit overblown.

Within this genre there are a few excellent series such as J.R. Ward's show more Black Dagger Brotherhood (first books better than last few) and Lara Adrian's Breed series. So there is a stereotypical storyline that is to be expected:
- hunky caveman-like vampire group
- feisty human love interest with some kind of handicap to overcome
- irresistible attraction
- exciting action in dangerous circumstances
- hot sex

And although Folsom hits the mark on all these points, the narrative is just a bit light for my tastes. This may be exactly what you are looking for though, so try it for a good summer beach read. While it was enjoyable, I doubt I'll be continuing with the series.

I tried to read this book a few times and ended up stopping both times. I guess third time was the charm because I really enjoyed this romance. I liked both the characters and thought they made a great pair. The secondary characters add to the story and make you want to know more and more about this world. Fun book!
Rating: 5 - I Loved It!

Another winner by Tina Folsom! I enjoyed this book as much as the first book in the Scanguards Vampires series, Samson’s Lovely Mortal, where we are first introduced to Amaury. He is Samson’s friend and works for him in Samson’s security company. He was an enjoyable character in a bad boy way in the first book and I was glad to see he was the focus of the second book.

Amaury is your typical alpha hero but he becomes a big ole softy with Nina. He is protective in that yummy growly way we love to see in our alpha heroes, but Nina is constantly fighting Amaury’s need to protect her. She is independent and stubborn and a good match for Amaury. Because of her past she is distrustful of men and resists her show more attraction to him almost to the end.

As with the first book, the romance between Amaury and Nina includes some snuggling, canoodling and talking, as well as hot sex scenes. Again, the author has done a great job in this area with a hot erotic romance that balances the sex with a suspenseful story while creating a sizzling connection between the main characters.

The secondary characters are also enjoyable and I look forward to their future stories. I like that Samson and Delilah have a fairly significant role in this book. It gives me a sense of their continuing story. I get to see the other secondary characters that I enjoyed in the first book as well and some new characters are introduced who I’m sure we will see in the future. Since the characters do carry over from one book to another, I recommend reading this series in order so you can understand the references and relationships between the characters.

Tina Folsom is officially on my watch list! I eagerly look forward to the next book in this series and her new Greek Gods series expected to be released this Fall.

Started off good. Then it became repetitive and lost its edge. The characters never really became dynamic nor compelling. The plot seemed a bit chaotic. Even the erotic parts were repetitive and a bit boring.
The potential was there, but it never really developed into anything. I am still undecided about the series. I remember liking 'Samson's Lovely Mortal' & when I ran into this book I was excited to read it. Now I am even more unsure about it.
Disappointing - nowhere near as good as the first book in the series. I had been looking forward to Amaury's story, as he seemed a dark, conflicted character when introduced in the first book, but this was very bland - not much tension in the story, and the characters weren't particularly interesting. In hopes that book 3 is more like book 1, I'll give it a try...
