4048. Cathedral and Crusade Studies of the Medieval Church 1050-1350 Volume I, by H. Daniel-Rops translated by John Warrington (read 21 July 2005) This is volume six of the English translation of the author's History of the Church of Christ. I read Volume three, Cathedral and Crusade July 21, 2005. I should have read the intervening volumes (The Protestant Reformation, The Catholic Reformation), but felt this volume would cover more of my present interest. It is a good work, though it concentrates on France, and all other areas get little attention. The first chapter deals largely with St. Vincent de Paul, the second with other other spiritual greats of the period before 1660, the third with Cardinal Richelieu (quite favorably viewed by show more the author), the fourth with Louis XIV, the fifth with the classical era, and the final chapter with Jansenism. All chapters are full of interest. show less
