The speeches which are compiled within this book adequately represent the prestige of Lincoln's oratory. In this it does well, and it will serve the student of history who wishes to begin a study of Lincoln's speeches. However, this book does not adequately represent Lincoln's views on the war as the title would suggest. Lincoln's letters ans correspondence must also be read to get a full appreciation of Lincoln on the Civil War. ( )
