About meI grew up in North Carolina and graduated from Wake Forest University with a B.S. in Biology and History, with honors, in 2004. My honors thesis topic was in southern history, which started my reading interests in that area. After college, I attended Dental School at the University of Maryland from 2005-2009, and received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. I then enrolled in a six-year residency for specialty training in Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery to be finished in 2015. As part of that program, I received my Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Connecticut in 2012, and I am currently completing two years of residency training in General Surgery. When I'm not studying or treating patients, I enjoy hanging with friends, playing golf and tennis, playing piano, and listening to music. I love learning history in all forms - museums, cemeteries, battlefields, and historic homes. My ancestors fought in the American Civil War and being from the South, that eventually became one of the reasons I have such an interest in learning about the people and decisions involved in America's cataclysm.

About my libraryI am a 31 year old history nut, which my library reflects. I have my mother and grandfathers to thank for my love of history. Both grandfathers encouraged that from the age of five, one by bringing me to visit the battlefields of the Civil War and the other by giving up his books to start my collection.

My library originated out of the books my family collected on the Civil War over the 1980s and 1990s. It began growing from my own acquisitions in 2000, when I became interested in collecting general American History and rekindled my interest in reading about the American Civil War. By college I had moved on to Slavery and Southern History books, as well as Military History, thanks to six great courses and two outstanding professors. I became interested in the American Revolution and Founding Fathers in 2008 after reading the works of Joseph Ellis and David McCullough. Starting in 2009, I added some of the fiction classics to round out the corners. In 2010 and 2011 I began a collection on the American Presidents.

My library is spread over two states, my parents' homes in NC and my current apartment in CT. I still have yet to catalog all the books, but there are conservatively somewhere in the amount of 3,000 in my collection.

GroupsAbraham Lincoln & Lincolniana, American Civil War, American History, American Revolution & Founding Fathers History, Military History

I am very pleased you find my list of books interesting. I am looking forward to browsing in your list of books. I have done short comments on about 80% of the books I have read--all the books I have read are listed in my place in LibraryThing. No book I have listed is unread by me. I would be interested in what you consider the best five or ten books you have read. If interested, I could email you a list of the 10 best fiction works and the ten best non-fiction books I have read, said list having been compiled in May 2010..
I have uploaded a cover for Appomattox Commander: The Story of General E. O. C. Ord by Bernarr Cresap.

I thank you for adding me as your interesting library plankowner.
You are too kind.

May the reminder of your library prove as interesting as the books I've seen already.
Welcome back! I was wondering when the rest of the collection was coming.
Welcome to LT! I see a nice collection forming.
