I think I keep reading these books out of habit. The author needs to find a new hook for her books, because the "Goldy goes investigating on her own and goes places her police investigator asks her not to because she will be in danger" schtick is tired. ( )

I've one book left to read in this series, and hope it's better. This was unreadable. After 117 pages, I gave up an skimmed through to the end. The constant regurgitation of the facts, ad nauseum, drove me nuts. At least one time per chapter Goldy Schultz would hash over the facts of the story. The book could have been half as long without this constant repetition, and would have been much better for it. The gist of the story is that Goldy is searching for a killer who burned down the home of her catering friend Yolanda and Yolanda's obnoxious old aunt, who were totally unlikeable. ( )

I have read most of the books in the series, and usually enjoy them. This one, I didn't enjoy so much. Maybe it was because I didn't care about any of the characters. Ernest is killed. Who is Ernest? We don't really know since when we meet him he is already dead. His tenants, Yolanda and Ferdinanda come to stay with Goldy. While Ferdinanda is amusing, Yolanda is nothing but annoying and seems to take Goldy's generosity for granted. The Humberto Captain character was confusing. Was he really as bad as everyone says he is? Sometimes he seems pretty nice and generous. He didn't really need to be in the book at all. The only thing I was a little interested in was the mystery of the beagle puppies. I was really curious to find out why they were getting sick. This book was ok, but not the best in the series. ( )

Typical Goldie story...as good as ever. Seems like the recipes took a bit of a backseat in this one. ( )

I always enjoy these books about Goldy, a caterer and amateur detective. ( )

Davidson’s fans will not be disappointed with the usual lavish appended recipes. This time, though, the tale is overlong, with too much attention to food and a chaotic mystery.

When my love swears that she is made of truth,
I do believe her though I know she lies...
Therefore I lie with her, and she with me,
And in our faults by lies we flattered be.
